How can you make a difference?

Purpose

The Brand Team sits within the Division of Communication and serves as a creative brand hub for regional and country offices. The team requires the service of two junior brand designers to advance the roll-out of the Brand Strategy within the Global Communication and Advocacy Strategy, along with the adoption and creation of UNICEF brand elements and design in headquarters and country offices.

Expected results: (measurable results)

a.         Designing graphic materials to support campaigns, meetings, and office branding.

b.         Designing a package of internal templated visibility items, including letterhead, business cards, PowerPoint slides, Report Pages, Fact Sheets, campaign reviews and more

c.         Designing and commenting on the design of brochures, toolkits, and publications

d.         Brainstorming and contributing your design power to our signature yearly event – World Children’s Day, UNICEF@75, and UNICEF’s foundational flagship campaign Reimagine.

e.         Sourcing quality and suitable photos and videos from the UNICEF database

f.          Liaising and coordinating the printing production of certain publications and materials.

g.         Designing logo and vector illustrations.

h.         Assisting our lead brand designer in ad hoc projects

i.          Supporting the Brand Help Desk through reviewing queries and providing guidance and suggestions.

Description of the assignment

The designer(s) should be prepared to work onsite within the Brand Team for 35 hours per week for the period between 15 November 2020 and 15 May2021.

NYHQ /remote-based

Travel (If Applicable)

This post can be situated outside the US, providing the applicant agrees to work a New York work day, or as assigned by the Lead Brand Designers. In the case of unforeseen official business travel, actual cost, including the visa fee, vaccination will be reimbursed in accordance with UNICEF Policy/procedure on official travel.

Requests for services under an individual contract shall normally require the consultant / individual contractor to indicate their all-inclusive fees (including lump sum travel and subsistence costs, as applicable) for the services to be provided.

When submitting their bid, the consultant is also advised to take into consideration as part of their bid for the assignment the cost of health insurance and/or photographic, video-graphic equipment if such equipment is needed to complete the deliverables of the assignment.)

 Key competences, technical background, and experience required Deadline

  • This is a Junior Design position.
  • A First University Degree (Bachelor’s) combined with a minimum of one-year experience (which can combine a combination of internships and work experience and internship) may be taken into consideration in combination with the presentation of a design portfolio.
  • Have excellent knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite products, such as InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop
  • Experience in motion graphics and illustration considered a plus
  • Have a good working knowledge of PowerPoint and other Office platforms
  • Have experience in working with printing and production companies
  • Have the ability to follow a brief and deliver products on time and within budget
  • Be ready and willing to take direction well and work in a dynamic, collaborative, multi-cultural environment.
  • Have a general understanding of and interest in world affairs, current events and humanitarian issues.
  • Have your own MAC laptop.
  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.

Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws.

With the exception of the US Citizens, G4 Visa and Green Card holders, should the selected candidate and his/her household members reside in the United States under a different visa, the consultant and his/her household members are required to change their visa status to G4, and the consultant’s household members (spouse) will require an Employment Authorization Card (EAD) to be able to work, even if he/she was authorized to work under the visa held prior to switching to G4.   

At the time the contract is awarded, the selected candidate must have in place current health insurance coverage
