BACKGROUND

UNICEF places a high priority on the availability of reliable information with which to monitor the situation of children and women. Statistically sound and internationally comparable data are essential for developing evidence-based policies and programmes, as well as for monitoring countries’ progress toward national goals and global commitments, including the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Terms of Reference / Deliverables

The primary purpose of this assignment to support the D&A nutrition team in undertaking data analysis for the upcoming report on women’s nutrition. Additionally, the incumbent will support the team in establishing the women’s nutrition database and accompanying data tables to be published with the report.

Scope of Work:

  • Identify relevant data sources – The nutrition team currently maintains an internal catalogue of several types of data sources including household surveys, surveillance and administrative reports. The incumbent will be required to go through the survey catalogue to identify data sources for women’s/maternal nutrition.
  • Support with data analysis – Support data analysis to present current status, trends and inequities in women’s nutrition.  The incumbent will be required to develop a STATA code for reanalysing surveys similar to the MACROS in STATA developed by the nutrition team for other nutrition indicators. The incumbent will also support the team in undertaking analysis as needed for developing the database and data tables to be published with the report.

Qualifications

(1) Education

  • An advanced university degree in public health, nutrition or biostatistics

2) Work experience

  • At least 3 years of experience analyzing nutrition indicators. Knowledge of data collected in large scale household surveys such as MICS and DHS is preferred.
  • Experience analysing women’s nutrition specific indicators is preferred.

3) Competencies

  • Experience with STATA or any other statistical software is required.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills
  • Highly detail oriented

Requirements:

  • Completed profile in UNICEF’s e-Recruitment system and provide Personal History Form (P11) Upload copy of academic credentials
  • Financial proposal that will include:
  • your daily/monthly rate (in US$) to undertake the terms of reference 
    • travel costs and daily subsistence allowance, if internationally recruited or travel is required as per TOR.
    • Any other estimated costs: visa, health insurance, and living costs as applicable.
    • Indicate your availability
  • Any emergent / unforeseen duty travel and related expenses will be covered by UNICEF.
  • At the time the contract is awarded, the selected candidate must have in place current health insurance coverage.
  • Payment of professional fees will be based on submission of agreed satisfactory deliverables. UNICEF reserves the right to withhold payment in case the deliverables submitted are not up to the required standard or in case of delays in submitting the deliverables on the part of the consultant.

U.S. Visa information:

With the exception of the US Citizens, G4 Visa and Green Card holders, should the selected candidate and his/her household members reside in the United States under a different visa, the consultant and his/her household members are required to change their visa status to G4, and the consultant’s household members (spouse) will require an Employment Authorization Card (EAD) to be able to work, even if he/she was authorized to work under the visa held prior to switching to G4.

Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws.
