The Digital Strategy Section (DSS) within the Division of Communication comprises Web Editorial, Social Media News and Campaigns, Digital Governance and Platforms teams working together to create compelling public-facing content and to provide digital services within the organization.
Through multiple platforms and in multiple languages, DSS draws attention to the many facets of UNICEF’s work, encouraging public support, participation and action, as well as ensuring greater transparency and accountability. Web stories, blog posts, photo essays, Facebook posts, Twitter campaigns, and videos for distribution via UNICEF.org, UNICEF Connect, YouTube, news media and other outlets and platforms are all a part of our digital storytelling. DSS is also responsible for the build, management and maintenance of global website properties, as well as providing support to Country and Regional (field) Offices to maximize their use of global web platforms in their communications activities.
DSS is currently looking for a Digital Learning and Capacity Building Specialist to continue advancing organizational digital communication capacity building efforts and lead the planning, design, implementation and evaluation of learning initiatives and projects, to equip UNICEF offices and staff globally with the most cutting-edge and up-to-date digital knowledge and skills and support UNICEF’s communication and advocacy for children and young people.
How can you make a difference?
Under the supervision and guidance of the Digital Governance and Capacity Building Lead, the Digital Learning and Capacity Building Specialist will be working closely with various teams and subject-matter experts in the DSS and s/he will be responsible for the development and implementation of digital communication capacity building initiatives based on the learning assessment results; the management, maintenance and optimization of capacity building channels; the monitoring, evaluation and reporting of capacity building outcomes and impacts.
Description of the assignment
- Conduct a global learning assessment for UNICEF’s digital communication practitioners and identify capacity building needs and gaps.
- Based on the learning assessment results, develop and implement the section’s 2021 capacity building strategy and plan by proposing suitable and executable digital learning initiatives and activities as well as key performance indicators.
- Conduct an in-depth market research on effective digital learning methodologies, best practices and trends. Analyze capacity building and knowledge exchange modalities and develop a learning toolbox and service catalog.
- Lead and manage UNICEF’s community of practice for digital communications (Yammer) and develop a community engagement strategy.
- Conceptualize, plan and launch a global learning event for digital communications, in collaborations with internal stakeholders and external partners.
- Develop a learning path and refine the onboarding deck for digital communication practitioners.
- Organize and facilitate capacity building sessions in collaborations with relevant teams and subject-matter experts.
- Manage and maintain DSS’s capacity building channels, including knowledge portal, e-learning platform and community of practice, etc.
- Design and develop learning and communication materials for a variety of audiences in the digital communication discipline.
- Monitor and evaluate capacity building activities and develop performance reports on activity outcomes and impacts.
- Provide support and expertise to other relevant work areas of the Digital Strategy Section as needed.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…
- Masters required in Communications, Digital Media, Digital Marketing, Psychology or other related discipline.
- A minimum of five years of progressively professional experience in digital communications, digital marketing, learning & development, capacity building, knowledge management, instructional design in an international organization and/or large corporation is required to be eligible for this role.
- An established track record of effectively conducting learning needs assessment and gap analysis as well as developing learning strategy and plans.
- Working knowledge of current developments in the digital communications, digital marketing and digital learning.
- Strong technical expertise and hands-on experience in designing and delivering digital learning and training activities.
- Familiarity with a variety of tools and techniques that can be applied in learning and capacity building activities.
- Proven experience in planning, organizing and evaluating global online events.
- Proven experience in managing online communities and developing engagement strategy.
- Self-motivated with the ability to take direction. Ability to work both collaboratively and independently.
- Strong ability to write and edit communication and learning materials and ability to explain complex ideas and concepts clearly and concisely in both written and oral forms.
- Strong teamwork and partnership building skills and ability to effectively nurture relationships in a multicultural and decentralized working environment.
- Ability to identify and analyze systemic issues, formulate opinions and make conclusions and recommendations to resolve those issues.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to handle multiple assignments with competing deadlines, Able to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
- Proven analytical and research skills, and ability to conduct and report on high quality quantitative and qualitative data analytics analysis and conduct in-depth market research.
- Proven ability to conceptualize, plan and execute ideas and implement innovative approaches, as well as transfer knowledge and skills.
- Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language or a local language is an asset.
