UNICEF requires the services of a communication and digital media expert to support advocacy and fundraising work, in order to help spearhead continued digital communication growth in the Gulf area, and reach the bold targets set by the organisation. The consultant will advise and lead a growth strategy for UNICEF Gulf digital media channels, create engaging and innovative content for all platforms. The selected candidate will bring the latest trends, techniques, and industry best practices to reach a broad range of audiences and help achieve results for children in the Gulf area and around the world.

This is a unique and exciting opportunity to help drive the digital presence of a world-renowned brand in a dynamic region.  The assignment will ensure that UNICEF Gulf accelerates the growth of its digital reach, engagement, and participation from audiences and ensure those audiences have a greater understanding and more profound connections on critical priority issues – and have options to meaningfully contribute to UNICEF’s mission, for every child.

Under the guidance of the Communication and Advocacy Manager, the consultant will be responsible for developing, implementing and monitoring the digital communication strategy for UNICEF Gulf’s digital outreach and engagement across a range of digital platforms, with the objective of promoting awareness, deepening existing level of engagement as well as identifying and targeting new audiences who are primed to support UNICEF’s goals in Gulf.  

The consultant will work closely with the Communication Specialist, Partnerships & Resource Mobilisation team and the Programme team to advocate for child rights and support advocacy and fundraising efforts in line with the strategic direction of UNICEF’s work in improving the lives of children across the Gulf Area.

The consultant will be responsible for the following Tasks:

1)Lead the development and execution of an audience driven social media strategy for the Gulf Office, setting and refining UNICEF’s editorial style and voice on digital platforms

2) Support the office in identifying and working with digital influencers/celebrities and create conversations around issues related to UNICEF Gulf’s mandate, keeping its digital community engaged in dynamic, interactive and meaningful ways.

3) Conceptualise and pilot digital campaigns with the aim of generating conversations around children’s rights and UNICEF advocacy priorities – this may include travel within the UAE and to other Gulf countries as required. Further, the consultant will turn technical content into public and social media-friendly language to increase engagement from various sets of audiences.

4)Foresee and analyse risks as they relate to digital engagement and protecting the UNICEF brand.

5) Media buying: Design, create and manage promotions and social ad campaigns, including media buying plans for social media as required.

6) Measure and analyze the impact of online platforms and social networks

7) Monitor trends in social media tools and tactics, applications, audiences, emerging trends and strategy especially in the Gulf area.

8) Provide general assistance to the Communications Section including managing and working with relevant suppliers

Deliverables:

  1. Development of a digital communication strategy specifically tailored for UNICEF Gulf.
  2. Establishment of an influencers/content creators’ network that advocates for UNICEF Gulf’s work for children.
  3. Deliver social media packs for flagship events, initiatives, and campaigns. Draft and publish content on social media platforms & document events in formats for digital media (photographs, short videos, participant testimonials, etc.)
  4. Generate and analyse insights reports reflecting different social media KPIs, demographics, sentiment analysis with lesson learned and suggested action points for future digital campaigns
  5. Consistent situational analysis on UNICEF Gulf’s social media platforms.

  7. Assess and report risks and threats to appropriate management.
  8. Actively play a role in day-to-day communication and advocacy activities that serve UNICEF Gulf office’s priorities. 

 

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, English, Public Affairs, Public Relations, Journalism or related field relevant for the role.
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in Communication and Digital Media, social media management, and managing and supporting strategic and day-to-day communications in a high-paced environment.
  • Experience in reporting on qualitative and quantitative analytics.
  • Demonstrated excellent writing skills, especially for digital platforms.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the local and global digital landscape and trends.
  • Experience in reporting on qualitative and quantitative analytics.
  • Proven experience and knowledge of managing advertising budgets across Facebook Business Manager.
  • Fluency in both written and spoken Arabic and English is essential.
  • Previous UNICEF or UN experience in a similar role is highly desirable.

Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws.
