The Danish Family Planning Association (DFPA) is looking for an experienced and qualified consultant to carry out a comprehensive thematic review of its intervention logic and implementation of its thematic area “SRHR and Private Sector”, focusing on Kenya, Uganda, and Denmark.
Background As part of its Danida funded programme, the Danish Family Planning Association (DFPA) is working
in Kenya and Uganda to strengthen the engagement of companies and other private sector stakeholders in promoting gender equality and health, including sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), of workers and their families. Towards this end, DFPA has entered into strategic partnerships with partners from civil society organisations (CSOs) and employer organisations in Kenya and Uganda to reduce barriers to women’s health, including SRHR, and equal participation in the workforce.
Private sector entities engaging in Danish priority countries face a sociopolitical context, where gender inequality, discrimination, and poor access to health services and information remain significant barriers to the good health, well-being, economic empowerment, and equal participation of women, men, and youth in society. The business community has a significant role to play in reducing structural inequality and contributing to sustainable development by strengthening access to decent work, diversity, and inclusion. This includes a responsibility, as spelled out by the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, to identify and address potential adverse human rights impacts in their business operations – including those related to workplace health, SRHR and gender equality.
The review is meant to provide DFPA and i partners with information about how interventions have played out in relation to the Theory of Change, and inform on strengths, weaknesses and good practices. The learnings and recommendations from the review will inform on DFPA and partners ongoing approach and future programme design – including advocacy strategy, workplace interventions, capacity building efforts, development of tools and partner selection.

Competences and Qualifications of Consultant DFPA is seeking a consultant that has the following competencies and experience
- Applied research experience from assessments, mappings, and evaluations, preferably related to East Africa
- Understanding of the Business and Human Rights nexus
- Knowledge about of SRHR, gender equality, occupational health and safety is considered an asset
- Knowledge about decent work agenda, labour laws, and legislation, preferably related to gender equality and SRHR is considered an asset
- Experience working in the nexus between business and development
- Be fluent in English
