How can you make a difference?
The Regional Communication section, UNICEF East Asia and Pacific Region Office (EAPRO) is seeking an individual consultant to support implementation and monitoring of the advocacy and communication strategy and associated products and activities with the objective of promoting awareness, understanding, support and respect for children’s and women’s rights, and support for UNICEF’s mission, priorities and programmes in the Regional Office.
Work Assignment
Under the direct supervision of Regional Communication Specialist, the consultant will undertake the following activities.
1. Communication/advocacy: Support the implementation of the regional advocacy and communication strategy to help drive changes needed for the result areas under the three Regional Headlines and advocacy related to the Recover, Rebound and Reimagine campaign as well as maintain close collaboration with country office and HQ communication teams for effective overall coordination. Also, support implementation of activities generated under the region’s Thought Leadership Fund.
2. Digital engagement and content:
a. Implement the regional office digital communication strategy focusing on the three Regional Headlines and the Recover, Rebound and Reimagine campaign in collaboration with country offices, programme and HQ colleagues.
b. Oversee the Regional Office website, including content creation and updating the website.
c. Advise country offices on developing social media plans, content and strategies for supporter engagement and outreach.
3. Global priorities and regional media relation: Support the UNICEF global communications objectives and strategies; gather/facilitate the content and coverage of relevant country effects; ensure regular communication and coordination with relevant communication colleagues in country offices and headquarters divisions.
End Product:
- Timely implementation of projects under the three Regional Headlines, the Recover, Rebound and Reimagine campaign and the Thought Leadership fund.
- A well-maintained UNICEF website and social media channels.
- Timely advice to country offices on developing social media plans, content and strategies for supporter engagement and outreach.
Estimated Duration of Contract: 4 months covered period 7 November 2020 – 6 March 2021
Work Schedule and Workplace: The consultant will work remotely from home or at UNICEF Bangkok office on a full-time basis. Candidates based in Bangkok or those who are living abroad and able to work Bangkok hours will be considered.
To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…
- Advanced university degree in Communication, Journalism, Public Relations.
- Strong and current knowledge of Communication.
- Excellent skills for gathering, writing and packaging critical information, including for digital platforms and presentations.
- Experience using Drupal CMS to update and create content for UNICEF.org.
- Experience creating and posting content for social media channels including Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
- Understanding of writing for a general (public) audience is vital and experience of writing for an internal audience is an asset.
- Familiarity with UNICEF style, quality and brand guidelines.
- General knowledge of the development and rights issues in UNICEF’s mandate and in East Asia and Pacific would be an asset.
- Fluency in English and another UN language would be advantage.
