About your role:

Under sustainable cities program we use technical expertise, cutting-edge research and on-the-ground partnerships to design solutions that enable sustainable city growth. We collaborate with local and national decision-makers across states to implement projects that overcome the challenges of urbanization and make cities that are better for people. WRI India is a designated Anchor Institute to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), Government of India for the sub scheme ‘Pilot on Formulation of Local Area Plan (LAP) and Town Planning Scheme (TPS)’ under  AMRUT.  WRI India is anchoring LAP-TPS projects in multiple cities across India and is looking for a candidate with proven urban design expertise.  

The chosen candidate will be responsible for the urban design aspects of the selected local area plans and town planning schemes. The candidate must have at least 8 to 10 years of work experience on projects such as public space design, street design, layout planning, neighborhood planning, form-based codes, development control regulations, and township design.  

How your day will unfold: 

WRI India is currently working on multiple sites that are in greenfield (TPS) and brownfield (LAP) contexts across different States in India requiring a contextually appropriate and sensitive approach to design. The candidate must be able to work independently and coordinate with a larger team to generate the required deliverables from conceptual stages to working drawing stages such as site drawings, renders, concept note writing, reports, quantity estimates and power point presentations.  

The selected candidate with at least 8 to 10 years of relevant work experience will:  

  • Understand the project sites context from the point of view of ecology, topography, and socio-cultural and socio-economic aspects, and translate the same into physical design keeping in mind climate sensitivity and project targets. 
  • Be well acquainted with current best practices in sustainable urban design. 
  • Independently prepare concept designs, draft and final designs for LAP and TPS sites. 
  • Prepare working drawing with material specifications. 
  • Develop context specific form-based codes. 
  • Derive quantities and assist in estimation and costing  
  • Prepare presentation drawings, renders and power point presentations 
  • Assist in the preparation of project reports.    

Qualifications and requirements we seek:

Should have at least 8 to 10 years of relevant project experience in urban design (at macro and micro levels).  

  • Experience of working on Local Area Plans, Town Planning Schemes, Public Space Design, Street Design, Transit Oriented Development, Form Based Codes, Area Based Development, Neighborhood Design and Township Design. 
  • Strong design skills from concepts to construction drawings, ability to provide spatial design solutions at sub-city or neighborhood level 
  • Experience of converting concepts into designs and development of working drawings in multiple geographic contexts 
  • On-site work experience of implementing the urban design / large scale architectural works 
  • Good with material specifications, BoQs and cost estimation. 
  • Good graphic visualization skills with proficiency in Adobe suite, AutoCAD and MS Office  
  • Excellent communication skills with an ability to present complex information in a clear and concise manner, think creatively, work calmly and enthusiastically with minimal supervision. 

Qualification: 

  • Master’s degree in Urban Design 
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Design or Architecture

Duration: On project basis
