Cryo-EM Researcher/Scientist in Programmed Cell Death

Overview

The Moldoveanu lab is seeking a highly motivated cryo-EM structural biologist to work on interdisciplinary projects at the interface of integrated structural biology and biochemistry of proteins implicated in programmed cell death.

The successful candidate takes a leadership role in applying cryo-EM analysis in characterization of macromolecular complexes implicated in programmed cell death. He or she is expected to:

  • perform all aspects of single particle cryo-EM analysis independently, including negative staining, grid freezing, data collection and processing, and model building and refinement
  • interpret structures to generate hypothesis for functional investigations
  • prepare and draft relevant sections of papers and grants
  • interface with the cryo-EM center in training new lab members

The ideal candidate will have an academic record of innovative independent research using cryo-EM (papers in the field), hands-on experience with cryo-EM instrumentation, strong background in computational aspects of cryo-EM analysis, experience with sample manipulation for cryo-EM (e.g. purification, crosslinking), excellent oral, presentation, and written communication skills.

The successful candidate will join a highly collaborative team with expertise in biochemistry and structural biology focused on elucidating mechanisms of cell death signaling in the Department of Structural Biology with access to state-of-the-art cryo-EM instrumentation including Titan Krios, Talos Arctica, and Talos L120C. The Department has outstanding infrastructure and expertise in cryo-EM, X-ray crystallography, NMR spectroscopy, protein technologies, proteomics and metabolomics, and single molecule techniques.
