Tetra Tech International Development Services (http://www.tetratech.com/intdev) headquartered in Arlington, VA is currently accepting expressions of interest from qualified candidates for a potential Forest Management and Conservation Lead position on a USAID funded program in Colombia.

Position Description/Summary: Tetra Tech is seeking to hire a qualified Manager to lead all technical and administrative aspects of the Forest Management and Conservation component of a 5-year USAID-funded biodiversity conservation initiative titled Amazon Alive. In response to Colombia’s recent surge in deforestation and biodiversity loss, the purpose of the activity is to (1) improve the effectiveness of environmental crime prevention and prosecution and (2) improve the effectiveness of forest conservation and management. This will be an integrated activity designed to contribute to Colombian development by strengthening social cohesion, responsive governance, and environmentally sustainable economic development.

The Forest Management and Conservation Lead will provide comprehensive expert technical oversight and guidance in aspects of the program related to forest conservation and management, land rights and use, conservation finance/private sector engagement, and biodiversity conservation in the Amazon. They will also be responsible for managing a team of experts. This will be a full-time position and be based in Colombia for the full life of project (anticipated five years).

Responsibilities:

* Provide leadership and technical expertise for the forest management and conservation activities, and supervise a team of experts;

* Manage implementation of forest management and conservation activities, including: 1) oversite of personnel, planning, budgeting and financial management, reporting; and achievement of results;

* Ensure quality control and timeliness of deliverables.

Qualifications:

*At least a master’s degree in a relevant environmental or social science.

*At least 10 years relevant experience: managing technical teams, first-hand knowledge of two or more of the following technical areas: forest conservation, sustainable forest management, conservation-based forest enterprises, land rights and use, conservation finance, private sector engagement, biodiversity conservation in the Amazon.

*Proven knowledge and understanding of the political economy and socioeconomic dynamics in the Colombian Amazon.

*Proven leadership and organizational skills managing and coordinating large and diverse work groups;

*Strong managerial, administrative, writing skills and extensive M&E experience is preferred.

*Demonstrated inter-personal, communication (written and oral in Spanish), presentation and facilitation skills.
