Overview
Position serves as a focal point for outbreaks and infectious disease; serving as institutional capacity and authority in all international outbreak/infectious disease monitoring, preparation, readiness, implementation and networking; and lead focal point for response in outbreak/infectious disease disaster response as well as for country-office program implementation.
A day in the life of an Epidemiology and Outbreak Response Specialist

In the role of Epidemiology and Outbreak Response Specialist, you will have the opportunity to:
- Maintain your personal relationship with Jesus Christ and be an effective witness for Him
- Monitor infectious disease threats worldwide engaging in global surveillance of epidemics that are of high priority to the organization, such as Viral Hemorrhagic Fevers, Acute Respiratory Infections, Diarrheal and Water Borne Illnesses and Vaccine Preventable Illnesses
- Interpret outbreak and infectious disease circumstance, data, and context for decision makers, field offices, and emergency responses
- Actively engage with regional directors and country offices to support longer-term infectious disease preparedness and response programming within the larger strategies of the International Health Unit.
- Travel to field sites as needed for temporary assigned field responsibility, project assessment, or other work as assigned.
- Disseminate evidence based programming concepts, guidance, tools, technical papers, standards and frameworks regarding the health sector.
- Serve as integral member in emergency response – providing leadership on the field and from headquarters as needed. – Serve on the Incident Management Team (IMT) or travels on DARTs as directed.

Qualifications & Experience:
- A personal, vibrant relationship with Jesus Christ and desire to continue being an active, consistent witness for Him.
- Preferred – Medical Doctor or Doctorate in an infectious disease and epidemiology related field.
- Required Master’s degree in Public Health (M.P.H.) or advanced degree in infectious disease or related field.
- Minimum of 5 years international field program experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Registered nurse with commensurate experience will be considered.
- Fluency in English (required).
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- 12 credit hours of college-level Biblical Studies. travel up to 30%
