The AJC Transatlantic Institute is recruiting a full-time EU Policy Advisor.
Start date: 1 September 2021
The AJC Transatlantic Institute is the Brussels-based EU Office of the American Jewish Committee (AJC), a non-partisan organization founded in 1906. AJC’s mission is to enhance the well-being of the Jewish people and Israel, and to advance human rights and democratic values.
Responsibilities:
Working closely with the Institute’s Director, the EU Policy Advisor conducts political outreach to key stakeholders, handles internal and external communications, and helps deepen partnerships with civil society and think tanks. The EU Policy Advisor will not only work to ensure AJC’s presence in the Brussels policy community, but will also help steer the organization’s advocacy strategy in line with AJC priorities. Specific duties include but are not limited to:
- Maintain and grow the Institute’s network of lawmakers, EU officials, diplomats, journalists, think tanks, and civil society to advance AJC’s advocacy agenda, including through the AJC-led interparliamentary network Transatlantic Friends of Israel (TFI). The EU Policy Advisor will engage with lawmakers and officials on both sides of the Atlantic to strengthen the partnership among the U.S., Israel, Canada, and Europe;
- Engage stakeholders on relevant policy initiatives at the EU level and beyond, including by promoting sign-on letters and statements and helping organize programs and conferences;
- Write press releases, briefing materials (both for internal and external use), and help produce the Institute’s monthly newsletter “In Focus”;
- Create engaging social media content to further grow the Institute’s Facebook and Twitter accounts;
- Help with certain administrative tasks, specifically with contact management and helping update the Institute’s website.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years’ relevant work experience, ideally working on campaigns at the intersection of advocacy, diplomacy, and public affairs/social media;
- Native or native-level English required. Other EU languages are a plus. Superior written and verbal communications skills;
- Fluency in key AJC issues including combating antisemitism and extremism, promoting deeper EU-Israel relations, and enhancing the transatlantic partnership;
- Ability to work independently, showing initiative and creativity in vision and outreach, and outstanding organizational skills with an eye for details;
- Capacity to speak with a non-partisan voice, echoing AJC’s thoughtful approach;
- A Master’s degree is preferred;
- A demonstrated commitment to the highest ethical standards and values consistent with those of AJC.
