Experience development and destination marketing team leader | Bosnia and Herzegovina | 2020

Chemonics seeks an experience development and destination marketing team leader for its ongoing five-year, $20 million USAID Developing Sustainable Tourism in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The project aims to support broad-based tourism-driven economic growth and promote social harmony by capitalizing on its rich cultural heritage and distinctive nature. In addition, it seeks to support the Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) tourism industry to quickly recover from the negative impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and set it on a robust growth trajectory toward a sustainable tourism economy. The project is built upon four objectives: enabling environment with harmonized policies and regulations necessary for noticeable growth in the tourism sector established; tourism quality, services, and branding strengthened resulting in improved BiH tourism industry; tourism service providers, agriculture, and other tourism-related SMEs gain improved access to finance resulting in a substantial increase in investment; and tourism and local agriculture products gain increased access to regional and global markets.

Based in Sarajevo, the experience development and destination marketing team leader will provide strategic and technical leadership for developing and implementing initiatives that lead to increasing BiH’s visibility as an attractive tourist destination. The experience development and destination marketing team leader must be an innovative and creative strategist with proven ability to take ideas from conception to delivery with tangible results. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world.

Responsibilities include:

  • Design and implement strategies with public and private stakeholders to harmonize BiH’s tourism brand
  • Designs a sales-focused campaign and precision marketing strategy to position BiH as a high-value tourism market for international visitors using creative online marketing
  • Lead strategic communication with global travel media channels
  • Focus on tourism promotion and destination marketing internationally and locally
  • Build tourism boards and tourism trade international marketing effectiveness
  • Provide advice to ensure a customer-centric product development in the variety of areas
  • Supervise experience development and destination marketing team, including long-term staff and short-term consultants and subcontractors as required

Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree in marketing, management, business, or a related field required. Advanced degree preferred
  • Significant experience in destination marketing, product development, international promotion, and strategy required
  • Previous experience working with USAID or other donor-funded programs in the economic growth sector preferred
  • Strong leadership capabilities including organizational and problem-solving skills with a demonstrated ability to manage, train, and build the capacity of supervisees
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to form effective working relationships at all levels including with USAID and Chemonics home office
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, to prioritize multiple work assignments in an extremely fast-paced environment, to meet deadlines, and to exercise good, professional judgment
  • Previous experience working in the Balkans, including Bosnia and Herzegovina, preferred
  • Frequent travel throughout BiH is required
  • Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
  • Fluent Serbo-Croatian required. Fluency in English required
