Job Summary/General Purpose of Job
Oversees the accuracy of the Association’s financial records in accordance with GAAP. Assists the Controller in directing the organization’s finance and accounting activities, overseeing the operations of the Association’s financial systems, financial reporting, and a variety of other duties. These functions include establishing and maintaining the organization’s internal control, business practices, and financial operating procedures. Analysis and finding are often presented to top management and the Finance Committee. An Individual in this position must be familiar with GAAP and a variety of accounting concepts, practices, and procedures as he or she leads and directs the work of other in Financial Services.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities (listed in order of importance and/or time spent)
Oversees the accuracy of the Association’s financial records in accordance with GAAP. Manages and directs the daily financial functions of the Association. This includes oversight of work done by assistant directors, managers, supervisors, accounting specialists, and accounting clerks. Provides assistance and problem-solving to other departments on financial matters. Also includes management of relationships with third party processors, banks, and other agencies with whom the Association has a financial relationship.
Participates in Association wide projects, including directing staff and utilizing resources to accomplish the objective of project. Provides financial and budgeting training to other areas.
Develops and creates any needed financial reports and analysis for the CFO, Controller, Finance Committee, and other Association entities.
Oversees accuracy of financial systems and acts as the financial liaison with other departments particularly with HR and IS on financial system requirements.
Oversees compliance with all federal, state, local, and grant reporting requirements.
Oversees the preparation of all financial schedules, statements and supporting documentation for the annual audits. Acts as liaison with the field auditors and provides them with requested information. Audits include the independent financial audit, A-133 Audit, and Circulation audits. Oversees any special audits that may arise.
Documents financial policies and procedures.
Performs other related duties as required.
Required Education, Qualifications, Experience
Bachelor’s Degree from four-year college or university (or equivalent experience)
10 year of related work experience-at least 5 in a managerial capacity.
CPA required.
A high level of self-direction, organizational and oversight abilities, communication and interpersonal skills
Good management and coaching skills.
Strong understanding of and experience in GAAP and not-for- profit accounting, business policies, operating procedures, and financial reporting requirement.
Good understanding of all regulatory issues related to specific field of expertise.
Preferred Education, Qualifications, Experience
MBA from four-year college or university (Preferred).
Master’s degree a plus.
