Context & Mission
Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international medical humanitarian organization founded in 1971 that provides impartial humanitarian assistance in more than 70 countries to populations in distress, victims of natural or man made disasters and to victims of armed conflicts, without discrimination and irrespective of religion, creed or political affiliation.
Responsibilities
Acting as a member of the ILD, the Flying Legal Advisor works in an integrated way with other legal advisors to ensure that MSF receives quality and harmonized support, whilst capitalizing specialized legal expertise and experience.
Under the hierarchical supervision of the Legal Coordinator, and the technical supervision of Unit 2 Manager, the Flying legal advisor is responsible to provide direct legal support to operations via field visits, with regards the medico-legal questions of MSF activities.
Education
- An advanced university degree in Law, with specialization in private law
- A focus on human rights
- Humanitarian action
- International humanitarian law or public health / medical ethics
Experience
- Minimum 3 years of professional experience as legal advisor
Competencies
- Knowledge of, and ability to apply, legal principles, concepts and procedures and terminology for review, examination, and processing of a range of legal documents.
- Knowledge of various legal research sources, including electronic, and ability to conduct research and analyze information on a wide range of legal issues
- Ability to interpret and apply legislative instruments, develop and present results, recommendations, and opinions clearly and concisely.
- Ability to popularise legal information into operational language
- Precise understanding of medical humanitarian work with regards to the management and protection of victims of violence
- IT user skills

Terms of Employment
- Field-based position (various missions) with visits to HQ in Geneva.
- Practical working conditions while in the field are as per the MSF OCG volunteer handbook.
- Fixed-term and part-time contract (12 months, 80%).
- Starting date: 15th February, 2021
- Gross monthly salary : CHF 5’500.- (based on a 100% position)
- Social Benefits: Health insurance and living costs in the countries of intervention and at HQ, paid according to internal regulations
