Office Context:
The Private Sector Fundraising and Partnerships (PSFP) section within the Division of Private Fundraising and Partnerships (PFP) works on a global basis with National Committees and UNICEF Country Offices to maximize Revenue and drive income growth.
The purpose of the Latin America and Caribbean PFP Regional Support Center (RSC) located in Panama is to maximize private sector opportunities within the LAC Region. This is primarily done through capacity building, guidance and oversight of Country Offices PSFR operations as well as project leadership on specific common enablers for PSFR operations, which require resolution at regional or global level, across divisional borders. Another important role of the RSC is to foster regional opportunities, for example in high-value channels fundraising and in B4R area.

Our Latin America and Caribbean Regional Office (LACRO) is seeking a Fundraising Manager – Individual Giving to be part of our LACRO PFP Regional team in addition to the PFP Individual Giving (IG) Team in PFP Geneva. This role will report to the Regional Chief of Partnerships in LAC and works in direct collaboration with the PFP IG Fundraising team in Geneva. The role will manage two positions (the F2F and Telemarketing fundraising roles) outposted to the region from PFP Geneva. In addition, he/she will coordinate with the PFP IG Team in Geneva, the consultants and other specialists across all IG related functions working with markets in the region.
How can you make a difference?
The Fundraising Manager (individual giving) will provide strategic and tactical leadership across all areas of Individual Giving (IG), from channels (Digital, DRTV, F2F, Corporate Pathway to Pledge and Telemarketing) to products (Cash, Pledge and Legacies) driving best practices with the aim of maximizing Regular Resources (unrestricted revenue) for UNICEF. In 2019, the LAC Individual Giving was responsible for delivering $70.4M in gross revenue. Key business areas will be pledge (acquisition, retention and value maximization); one off (cash) fundraising; legacies and emergency fundraising. The Manager will ensure IG programmes in the region are being continuously optimized and that the best global practices have been adopted to keep a high level of quality and success in LAC fundraising. In terms of key functions and accountabilities, the incumbent will be responsible for but not limited to:
- Align priorities and coordinate efforts across Global individual Giving, Regional Support Centers and country office teams to develop and optimize UNICEF’s Individual Giving programs in the Latin America and Caribbean Region.
- Advise on global investment allocation via Investment Funds, alternative investment funds (“the Dynamo Fund) or any other funding source and support the development of Investment and Innovation Fund applications, as well as the subsequent implementation and monitoring of these programs.
- Benchmark and advise on resource necessary on PFP teams to deliver on income targets across the region.
- Track the regional developments in Individual Giving across the NGO sector, both inside and outside UNICEF, especially developing and maintaining relationships with key influencers. Keep in touch with industry experts and keep track of competitor activities in LAC Region and keep the global individual giving team updated on regional challenges, opportunities and priorities and vice versa.
- Key Accountability for the total regional Individual Giving Channel income
- Support the development and monitoring of market specific fundraising strategies in alignment with global strategies, regional priorities as well as local context.
- Ensure continuous local testing, collate learnings and apply to our fundraising programs to maximize results.
- Facilitate sharing of best practices among Individual Giving practitioners in UNICEF, via workshops, social media, UNICEF intranet on ad-hoc basis; develop and share regional and global best practice manuals, e-learning tools etc.
- Emergency Fundraising support to markets in the event of a significant media-driven emergency, maximizing the short and long-term fundraising opportunities.
- Manage the regional individual giving team and ensure the specialists are aligned and coordinated.
- Work alongside other IG specialists to achieve efficient strategic and tactical intervention in markets, supporting them in their Pledge, Cash and Legacy income growth
- Lead on coordination and hands-on support to markets and across teams
To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…
- Advanced University degree in any of the following: Marketing, Fundraising, Business Administration, Economics, Social Sciences, Public Administration, International Relations, or equivalent. *A first University Degree in a relevant field combined with an additional 2 years of professional experience may be accepted in lieu of an Advanced University Degree.
- A minimum of eight years of professional work experience in direct marketing, Individual Giving, leading both acquisition and retention activities, with an extensive focus on monthly [pledge] giving, is required. Of these, at least some years of direct work experience in Digital marketing and/or fundraising is required.
- Strong experience of working in a complex multi-channel campaign environment that includes direct dialogue (F2F, D2D and TM) digital marketing, direct mail, and – ideally – DRTV., within a structured Fundraising programme, in a results-driven organization is required.
- Strong experience with digital fundraising with successful records will be an advantage.
- Management Experience from previous roles, either as direct manager or as a coordinator of complex initiatives involving other teams managing multi-million-dollar gross revenue profiles is required.
- Knowledge of individual fundraising trends across multiple markets.
- Experience of both agency and in-house individual giving campaigns would be an advantage.
- Experience of other pledge (Regular giving) fundraising.
- Developing country work experience and/or familiarity with emergency is considered an asset.
- Fluency (verbal and written) in English and Spanish is required. Knowledge of Portuguese or another UN Language is considered an asset.
