Gender Equality and Inclusion Specialist South Sudan:
The Gender Equality and Inclusion Specialist will provide technical guidance and strategic oversight to South Sudan country program ensuring that the response incorporates Save the Children Gender Equality programming principles, ensures the inclusion of disable people and minorities and other vulnerable groups in our programs, applying all relevant minimum standards. The role holder will advocate for the implementation of age & disability inclusive, gender-sensitive humanitarian programming and mainstreaming of other cross cutting themes across the organisation’s policy and practice. The incumbent will lead the process of developing Gender & Inclusion Strategy, and Action Plan. S/he will enhance CO capacity in promoting gender sensitive, at least, and inclusive programming, and promote gender equitable culture within the organization. S/he will ensure participation of SC in gender networks and other forums.
In order to be successful you will bring/have:
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Master’s degree in Gender or Women Studies or Social Science, or any relevant subjects
- At least 5 years working experience in this field
- Demonstrated experience in designing, implementing and evaluating gender equality and inclusiveness in programming in complex humanitarian responses
- Solid knowledge of gender equality minimum standards, inclusion minimum standards, familiarity with Sphere, IASC (e.g. protection) guidelines/standards, Red Cross codes of conduct and HAP and their application in humanitarian responses and also.
- Substantial experience in protection work, cross-cutting issues in humanitarian response (age, disability, environment etc.), working with vulnerable groups or participatory approaches.
- Demonstrated experience in strengthening the capacity of staff and partners on gender equality and inclusion technical issues in an emergency response
- Ability to analyse information, evaluate options and to think and plan strategically
- Team player who is able to work collaboratively and with people of diverse backgrounds
- Politically and culturally sensitive with qualities of patience, tact and diplomacy
- A high level of written and spoken English and Arabic
- Commitment to the aims and principles of Save the Children including willingness to abide and enforce the Child Safeguarding Policy. In particular, a good understanding of the mandate and child focus and an ability to ensure this continues to underpin our support
- Willingness to travel extensively to the field
- Experience or knowledge of working in relevant regions/contexts.
Desirable
- Experience or knowledge of working and living in South Sudan; Arabic language skills
- Experience of communicating beneficiaries directly
Contract Duration: 1 Year
Location: South Sudan, Juba Office with regular field Travel.
