Save the Children are looking for Board Members to join their Global Malnutrition Initiative Appeal Board.
Save the Children is the world’s leading independent organisation for children, comprised of 29 international member organisations operating in over 68 countries. In everything we do, we aim to put the most deprived and marginalised children first. We work to ensure that no child dies from preventable causes before their fifth birthday; all children have access to a good-quality basic education; and violence against children is no longer tolerated. Standing side-by-side with our supporters, we change the world for children through innovative development programmes, life-saving humanitarian work, bold campaigns, and high-impact partnerships. We work in the UK and globally, reaching over 13.3 million children worldwide last year alone.
The Global Malnutrition Initiative Appeal Board of Save the Children UK (SCUK) is comprised of committed individuals motivated to tackle acute malnutrition in parts of the world where children are hardest to reach. The objectives of The Global Malnutrition Initiative Appeal are to:
- Raise £10M over the next three years (2021-2023) for the Global Malnutrition Initiative
- Actively seek out corporate, philanthropist and institutional partnership opportunities through peer and business connections.
To join us as a Board Member, you will have experience in philanthropic giving, either in a personal capacity or through contacts and networks in a leadership position, and hold an senior level of influence within your industry. A commitment to the rights of children and passion for child survival are essential, as is an enthusiasm for developing networks and attracting new funding. Whilst previous experience in an Appeal or Fundraising Board is desirable, it is not essential.
The Global Malnutrition Initiative Appeal is not affiliated with the formal SCUK Board of Trustees or any sub-committees of the Board, and therefore you will have no financial or governance authority for the organisation, and won’t be asked to make any financial or governance-related decisions on behalf of SCUK.
Appeal Board Members give their time and their skills on a voluntary basis, for which Save the Children UK are very grateful. Although Appeal Board Members are not employees, officers or trustees of Save the Children UK, we ask that Appeal Board members adhere to these terms of reference to ensure Members reflect our values, we keep everyone safe from harm and we comply with our legal obligations as a charity.
Save the Children UK recognises the value of diversity in all its forms at all levels of the organisation, including at Board level. We celebrate its role in the creation of an inclusive workplace culture and thrive on the range of experience and insight diversity brings to our organisation. We want to increase the diversity of our leadership, and particularly welcome applications from people with disabilities, Black, Asian, or Minority Ethnic (BAME) backgrounds, LGBT+ and from different socio-economic and educational backgrounds, as these are underrepresented at Save the Children UK.
At Save the Children UK we are committed to the safeguarding and protection of children in our work. We will do everything possible to ensure that only those who are suitable to work with children are recruited to work for us. This post is subject to a range of vetting checks, including a criminal records disclosure.
If you share our belief in the power of children, join the fight. It takes relentless determination, creativity and a commitment to real change. Because every child should be able to make their mark on their world and help to build a better future. We look forward to hearing from you.
