Position Summary

Internews is seeking a full-time Programme Associate for its London-based Global Technology Hub. This is a unique, multi-faceted, entry-level role. It will offer you the opportunity to join a global, distributed, multi-cultural, multi-lingual team, and engage with staff across the Internews Network. The role will allow you to gain a deeper understanding of the services provided by The Global Technology Hub to Internews’ programs and partners.

The Global Technology Hub (GTH) is a team that sits within Internews’ Global Technology Department and supports development and deployment of technology in projects internationally. We offer a full suite of services to support security, sustainability, and capacity building for independent media outlets, civil society organizations, and human rights defenders around the globe. This position will play a critical role in supporting GTH operations as well as taking part in helping shape and drive forward a substantial scaling and innovation initiative.

You’re an ideal candidate for this position if you have excellent written and oral communication skills; great attention to detail and organizational capacity; a love for keeping things moving and on track; a voracious desire to learn; a willingness to take on the administrative requirements of the role; and an interest in the intersection of media, technology, and human rights.

Day-to-day tasks will include:

  • Assisting the Global Tech Hub Coordination Officer and the Global Technology Hub with:

      • Financial and Contractual Compliance Administration including, but not limited to, assisting with monthly statement reconciliations, some financial forecasting, technology payments, expense reimbursement, invoicing, and procurement;
      • Global Tech Hub Contractor Management including, but not limited to, drafting contractor amendments, job descriptions, and procurement;
    • Maintaining Global Tech Hub technological tracking;
    • Global Tech Hub expansion and communications support;
    • Proposal development assistance;
    • Drafting correspondence, both internal and external;
    • Drafting/preparing reports, memos, presentations, white papers, and other materials; and
    • Attending relevant events (panels, presentations, etc.) upon request, and sharing notes with the team.

Qualification we’re looking for:

Required

  • Prior experience in international development or the non-profit sector (including field experience) OR relevant skills OR a relevant degree;

  • Excellent English-language written and oral communication skills;

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail;

  • A willingness to learn and adopt secure communication tools;

  • Experience preparing and/or tracking expense reports and budgets;

  • A proven ability balance and effectively prioritize multiple assignments and deadlines;

  • An ability to show sensitivity and understanding for diverse perspectives in a multicultural environment;

  • An ability to pro actively communicate any challenges you’re facing to your supervisor and ask for help;

  • Experience b uilding presentations using software such as PowerPoint or Keynote, or to learn this skill quickly;

  • An ability to work effectively and constructively across large teams, and help align expectations and goals;
  • Optimism, a sense of humor, and excitement at joining a supportive, skilled, multi-cultural team that is distributed across the globe.

Preferred

(Candidates who do not have these preferred qualifications, but are interested and willing to learn are still encouraged to apply)

  • 1-3 years of office administration, research, or program implementation experience

  • Non-profit experience

  • Experience using or learning project management and information management tools, such as Microsoft Office/Project, Airtable, etc.

  • Experience following work and progress on issue tracker tools on, or similar to, Gitlab issues, Jira, Basecamp, Trello, etc.

  • Language skills in one of the primary Internews languages (Spanish, French, Arabic, Russian)

  • University degree preferred but not required

Logistics

This position reports to the Global Technology Hub Coordination Officer who is based in London. We are seeking a London-office based candidate for a full-time Monday-Friday position. Although there is some flexibility regarding work schedule, applicants should assume the need to be online and available within the range of 9 am-5 pm UTC.

We are, largely, a 40-50 person, multilingual team distributed across 11 countries with the Global Tech Hub itself making up 1/3 of this number alone. Our programs and initiatives:

  • defend and promote Internet Freedom, particularly digital rights, digital safety, and anti-censorship technologies;

  • provide direct technological support to human rights defenders and independent journalists;

  • improve private sector accountability within the area of technology and human rights; and

  • lead research into how human rights can be protected in closed and closing spaces.
