Position description

The University of California’s only school of international affairs, the School of Global Policy & Strategy (GPS) provides a unique resource for training leaders, creating ideas, and building networks for the governance of globalization and its local impacts. GPS is internationally renowned for its innovative programs, superb faculty and outstanding students and now stands among the world’s top graduate schools of international relations and is the established leader in its focus on Asia and the Americas. GPS instructs a diverse student body consisting of 60% domestic and 40% international students in MPP, MCEPA, MIA, BA-MIA, MAS, joint PhD with Department of Political Science and executive education programs.

GPS also administers the International Studies Program, a fast-growing interdisciplinary program with over 1700 declared undergraduate majors, that offers a rigorous curriculum for undergraduate students interested in international affairs. Offering nine B.A. degree options, three combined BA/MIA programs, and a minor program, the International Studies Program explores the interaction between the international and national, global and local, contemporary and historical ideas shaping globalization. GPS is also the parent organization to major research centers: Center for Commerce and Diplomacy (CCD), Center on Global Transformation (CGT), Center for U.S.-Mexican Studies, 21st Century China Center, Fudan-UC Center on China, Institute on Global Conflict and Cooperation (IGCC), Policy Design and Evaluation Lab (PDEL), Laboratory on International Law and Regulation (ILAR), and Japan Forum for Innovation and Technology (JFIT).

Under the direction of the Financial Analyst, provides day-to-day organizational management, project development, implementation and policy research coordination of large complex consortia/programs. The position provides a host of duties involving complex administrative analysis and makes contributions to the immediate academic and programmatic goals of the research; liaisons with subawardees, collaborators, and host agencies; executes large scale, multi-disciplinary education/training, conferencing and outreach efforts; works with principals, research staff, and visiting scholars on project needs; and provides assistance with special projects.

  • Must have access to reliable transportation to transport conference materials to event sites.
  • Occasional overtime may be required. Domestic and foreign travel may be required.

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Project management experience in research and demonstrated ability to conceptualize, develop and evaluate projects with emphasis on large complex consortias/programs.
  • Proven knowledge in cost analysis and drafting budget proposals, with skill in monitoring expenditures for each project/task/event and having knowledge to analyze fiscal data and develop modifications as necessary. Skill in coordinating project elements and planning resource utilization.
  • Advanced knowledge of concepts, principles and best practices of event planning and public relations, including design, organization and production of complex events. Knowledge and skills to apply event management principles, practices and techniques in support of effective event management, particularly high visibility, high impact, high risk events.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing complex calendars, coordinate meetings, prepare reports, business letters/memos, and meeting minutes which address research, training goals and task objectives.
  • Exceptionally strong organizational and time management skills; proven ability to set priorities which accurately reflect the relative importance of job responsibilities and take into consideration deadlines, competing requirements and complexity.
  • Proficient knowledge and skill in use of word processing, spreadsheet, presentation application, database, and calendaring. Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook.
  • Solid communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with all levels of staff verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to use sound judgment in responding to issues and concerns. Ability to use discretion and maintain confidentiality.
  • Excellent diplomacy and tact to effectively work with governmental officials, diplomats, UC faculty, and business community leaders.
  • Bachelor’s to advanced degree in relevant field (International Relations/Studies, Political Science, Economics, Social Science) or other subject areas relating to contemporary international security policy research, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
