GROUP LEADER OPPORTUNITIES AT THE MRC HUMAN IMMUNOLOGY UNIT

Seeking to recruit new Junior Group Leaders

The MRC Human Immunology Unit (MRC HIU) at the University of Oxford utilizes cutting edge approaches to understand how the human immune system operates in tissues and organs to maintain health and fight infection. The Unit has been dedicated to advancing understanding of human immunity for over 20 years. We apply clinical and scientific expertise, utilising large scale and complex data to harness the power of the immune system to improve human health.

About the MRC Human Immunology Unit

The MRC HIU is based at the MRC Weatherall institute of Molecular Medicine. Our mission is to uncover molecular mechanisms of immunity and use this knowledge to fight infections and treat immune mediated diseases. Our work sheds light on outstanding challenges in immunology and connects immune variation to disease phenotype.

Successful Programme Leader applicants would receive funding from the MRCHIU core grant to support their work prior to submission of a research programme at the next MRC quinquennial review of the Unit. Junior Group leaders will be given the support to establish an independent group with the expectation of career development toward Programme Leader within 5 years. Programme Leader appointments will be integrated within the University system with support towards Professorial appointments. Positions are open to clinician scientists, with an honorary clinical contract available to suitably qualified individuals.

Applicants should demonstrate the potential to develop their programme into one of international standing. We strive for an outstanding, vibrant and collaborative research culture. We are thus actively seeking to increase diversity among our staff and especially encourage applications from women, from minority ethnic groups and from those with non-standard career paths.

Applications should include a two-page cover letter outlining their major research goals and how these align with those of the MRCHIU. The formal application process will open in mid August 2021 with a closing time of 12:00, noon, 23 September 2021, but we encourage pre-application enquiries to Alison Simmons – Director: MRC Human Immunology Unit ([email protected]).
