The Opportunity

Save the Children International has an exciting opportunity for you to join our team as the Head of Project and Change Delivery (Maternity Cover) in London or any existing Save the Children International office location. 

Role Purpose:

The Head of Project and Change Delivery sits within the Transformation Delivery department and is responsible for leading and enabling Project and Change Managers responsible for a subset of our portfolio of projects to deliver in accordance with our Save the Children Project and Change Management methodologies. This role will line manage a subset of our Project Manager and Global Change Managers with a focus on coaching and hands on support. Where issues arise, the Head of Project and Change Delivery will themselves be required to scope and implement interventions directly or through the Transformation Interventions Manager that will sit in their team. 

The role will have overall accountability for ensuring that the projects within their line of accountability will successfully complete Project and Change Management deliverables and move through project stage-gates, including directly managing interventions in projects where significant risk exists and support is needed.

Over and above the core delivery responsibilities, the Head of Project and Change Delivery will be accountable for overseeing our Project and Change Methodologies. This will include ensuring these are effectively maintained and embedded across our projects and beyond and training and capacity strengthening / sharing in these core areas is made available to new joiners in the Transformation Delivery team as well as more broadly across the organisation in line with demand. Finally, another key accountability will be overseeing the ADI Team to ensure we continue to offer opportunities to strengthen project, change and continuous improvement capacities across our organisation through both interventions and capacity sharing opportunities.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

Essential:

  • Substantial experience with the successful management and deployment of large, transformation projects in complex organizational environments, preferably including experience in less developed or high-risk environments
  • Experience of industry project and management standards and holding project teams accountable to those standards
  • Proven experience of managing global teams with diverse skillsets
  • Demonstrable experience of acting as a ‘business partner’ to functional areas e.g. Supply Chain, Finance etc.
  • Experience of working in a fast-paced environment with high levels of change and quick turnaround times, whilst delivering to the highest standards
  • Substantial people and team management experience, including strong coaching skills
  • The ability to operate successfully in a ‘matrix’ organisation
  • Ability to resolve complex project issues, with a balance of pragmatism and rigour

Desirable:

  • Experience of ‘field operations’ and the IT-related issues associated with working in remote and fragile environments
  • An understanding of key trends in international and humanitarian development and how technology can and is being utilised to support these developments

We can offer circa £69,000 per annum (If based in UK) with an option of flexible working hours. If the role is based outside of the UK, National T&C (including pay) will apply.

This role can be based in London or any existing Save the Children International Regional or Country office location on approval, provided the successful candidate has proof of eligibility to work from the preferred location.
