The Community College of Aurora is looking for inclusive and engaging History instructors to teach courses in 20th Century World History for Fall 2021. CCA is committed to providing quality instruction and maintains high academic standards as well as a strong commitment to the success of our students.

The Social Science Department represents a diverse and multi-disciplinary collection of outstanding academic programs where instructors engage in a collegial and collaborative environment. The department also offers numerous avenues for new instructors to sharpen their pedagogical craft through professional development opportunities, faculty mentoring, Inclusive Excellence trainings, and participation in curriculum development or equity initiatives.

Examples of Duties / Knowledge & Skills

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
Effectively teach history courses

Adopt an inclusive excellence framework which meets the needs of individual students, integrates culturally responsive pedagogies, and strives to incorporate diverse sources and readings into the course

Incorporate and apply Gatekeeper Initiatives (if applicable)

Evaluate or assess student performance in accordance with student learning outcomes as stated in the course syllabus

Promote student success through engaging instruction, success, and rigor

Maintain accurate records of attendance and grading of students in CCA’s learning management system (Desire to Learn) and submit required records according to department protocol, convention, and deadlines

Complete a departmental orientation for the first year

Uphold the mission, values and institutional outcomes of the college

Abide by all relevant CCA, CCCS, and SBCCOE policies and procedures

Minimum qualifications & Requirements

Required Qualifications

Master’s Degree in History OR a Master’s Degree in a related field and 18 graduate credit hours in History

Willingness to learn about and incorporate the Inclusive Excellence Framework into pedagogy

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s Degree in History

College-level teaching experience in History

Experience teaching in a diverse community-college setting

Knowledge and understanding of Inclusive Excellence

Supplemental information

Salary: Instructional hours will be paid at the current Instructor rate, which is $874.00 per credit hour. HIS 247 is three credit hours. Site training and coordination will be paid on a contract basis.

Position Specifics: Positions are available for the fall 2021 semester. These positions are part-time. There are no insurance benefits offered with these positions. However, other benefits associated with this type of position include, a pension plan through the Colorado Public Employees Retirement Association and eligibility to contribute to supplemental retirement plans.
