Project Overview and Role:
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
* Health and Education Policy Plus (HEP+) is part of a global initiative jointly executed by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and Palladium Group.
* HEP+ creates and promotes conditions for dialogue among civil society, government, and other social stakeholders. Its purpose is to improve access to health, nutrition, and education for peoples, mainly of indigenous and rural peoples in the western highlands.
* One of its main actions is strengthening capacities of Civil Society Networks to influence the creation and observation of public policies on health, nutrition, and education in order to strengthen advocacy and policy dialogue processes with decisi on makers in these fields.
Since January 2017, HEP+ supports the Young Artists for Social Justice (JAxJS) Network https://www.facebook.com/JAxJS, that was thought as a physical and/or virtual space for youngsters to foster and influence a better social, cultural, political, and economic development for Guatemala through art before decision makers on national interest matters related to social justice in order to promote better public policies to favor childhood and youth, as well as the appropriate execution of the existing policies.
Strengthening advocacy and policy dialogue capacities of such network members is contemplated for the 2020-2021 Work Plan, besides accompanying them in different activities and set processes for the coming nine months.
Thus, it is necessary to have a consultant specialist on… who can provide local support so JAxJS network may achieve the objectives and goals in each of the following departments: QuichĂ©, Huehuetenango, Quetzaltenango, San Marcos, Totonicapán, and Guatemala. There will be a facilitator for each department.
OBJECTIVES
1) General Objective:
Strengthening youth civil society participation in favor of health, education, nutrition, and other matters related to social justice and political advocacy through art.
2) Specific Objectives:
* Strengthening, accompanying, and facilitating JAxJS dialogue processes in their advocacy work and policy dialogue with municipal, private sector authorities, and other decision makers.
* Promoting the articulation of civil society actions to achieve alliances or support from the private sector for the execution of different artistic activities aimed at seeking a better social, cultural, political, and economic development in Guatemala.
* Identifying young leaders in adjacent municipalities, providing tutorials, and accompaniment though the process for their inclusion to the civil society network.
* Carrying out cyberactivism, virtual activism or on-line activism as political action and social participation, through which youngsters would use technology and the Internet to organize
activities, discuss, share information, participate, and share their points of view on the matters being advocated.
FUNDAMENTAL ACTIVITIES OR ROLES:
* Accompanying JAxJS Network in the drafting and fulfilment of their work plan.
* Actively fostering the inclusion of new members from new municipalities to the network.
* Providing support to leaders who are part of civil society mechanisms and offering the necessary training to strengthen leadership capacities locally and nationwide to advocate for youth rights.
* Prioritizing advocacy work with some municipalities, religious organizations, support organizations, and private sector companies in the coverage area.
* Updating the mechanisms board or civil society mechanisms under his/her responsibility.
* Preparing an organizati on and/or private sector company board to set an approach for a precise alliance or support for network activities.
* Training participants and assuring their empowerment in facilitated matters.
* Preparing training reports, briefing notes and/or success stories of favorable influence outcomes.
* Structuring municipal mechanisms actions quarterly.
* Recording the minutes of meetings, forums, and press conferences, including photographs.
* Submitting letters, documents, photographs, and all kinds of appropriate evidence supporting actions, process, and advocacy and policy dialogue outcomes to the Project.
* Being available to attend meetings related to the Project as required by the Project Director and/or Component Manager.
* Developing and keeping an effective communication with civil society members.
* Fostering teamwork and a shared leadership in order to achieve better outcomes on the activities carried out by the Project.
* Recommending key m essages addressed to influence matters for civil society to post on social media, such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram
* Supporting the planning of discussion groups, interviews of civil society leaders with communication means, developing an active cyberactivism approach.
* Observing all Futures Group, Palladium, and USAID codes of conduct, work policies and procedures.
