Start Network aims to support a locally-led humanitarian system, and has begun putting that into practice by enabling the formation of locally-led hubs. Hubs are collectives of local, national and international changemakers operating in the same country or region. They will control their own resources and define their own responses to crises affecting their communities, united by a shared purpose and common standards, and supported by a global Start Network platform.

The purpose of this consultancy is to provide resource mobilisation support for Start Network’s five founding hubs in Pakistan, India, the Pacific region, Guatemala and the DRC, as they transition to independence. The consultant will be led by the hubs to determine their needs, scope relevant funding opportunities, develop tailored action plans and provide practical support for the hubs to take these plans forward.

Scope:

  • Design and lead a needs assessment with the hubs to identify areas of support for their fundraising activities and aspirations, as well as identifying collective ambitions of the cohort of hubs
  • Support relevant hubs to develop tailored action plans for resource mobilisation
  • Provide coaching/ practical support/ resources to enable hubs to take these plans forward
  • Scope regional, national and local funding opportunities, as outlined by each hub, and collaboratively explore ways they could leverage those opportunities
  • Support relevant hubs in setting a longer-term fundraising plan and associated requirements the central Resource Mobilisation team could support with

Expected skills and experience:

  • Significant experience working with a diverse set of international donors
  • Experience of raising funds for projects in the global south
  • Experience of working with local and national organisations in the global south (desired)
  • Strong understanding of the humanitarian localisation agenda
  • Experience in supporting dispersed international teams
  • Experience in developing resource mobilisation strategies and action plans
  • Knowledge of funding landscape and experience in partnership building in a specific region (desired)
  • Fluency in English (essential); fluency in French and Spanish (desired)
  • Flexible work attitude, with the ability to operate independently across a virtual work environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and organisational skills
  • Proficient in MS Office, Excel, PowerPoint and online survey tools

Payment:

The overall payment for the consultancy will fall within the range of 15,000 – 18,000 GBP.
