About TDA:
The Day After is a Syrian-led organization that works for democratic transition in Syria. TDA works with its partners among Syrian CSOs and international human rights’ organizations to influence Syrian and non-Syrian stakeholders for the favor of the democratic transition and to keep transitional justice and accountability as a high priority during transition.
TDA will soon begin implementation of a new project, “Enhancing Civil Cohesion and Accountability (ECCA) aims to strengthen and stabilize civil society in Syria towards the goal of contributing to a society that is better equipped to address the challenges of transition, accountability, and reconciliation. ECCA will achieve this by empowering victims of human rights violations, strengthening the capacities of civil society and community-based organizations, engaging Syrian youth in civic participation, and creating opportunities for collaboration and dialogue between community members.
In this context, TDA seeks full-time consultant to fill the position of Human Rights Specialist at its head office in Istanbul for a period of 12 months.
Key Responsibilities and Duties:
· Provide analytical and capacity-building expertise to build a system of better reception/processing/ interpretation of human rights related data under all components with special attention to issues of families of missing and survivors from prisons.
· Contribute to the implementation of the project activities related to strengthening capacity for fulfilling its mandates, addressing new human rights challenges, and contributing to the reform agendas.
· Ability to research legal issues and work in the preparation reports and recommendations and training materials comply with human rights best practices.
· Participate in meetings and represent TDA in special events.
· Perform other duties as necessary
Skills and Qualification:
· Arabic is a must.
· Deep understanding of the Syrian conflict, specially in the context of human rights violations.
· Academic degree or equivalent in international human rights law, transitional justice or related field.
· Minimum 3 years of practical work experience in the field of human rights, including collaboration with civil society organizations in professional or volunteer capacity.
· Experience in elaborating strategic documents and papers and conduction social research.
· Demonstrated awareness of human rights issues as elicited from previous professional experience.
· Fluency in Arabic and English
