The Supporter Engagement Strategy is a mechanism to deliver UNICEF’s Strategic Plan and the foundation for reaching the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. It brings to life UNICEF’s goal of winning support for the cause of children from decision makers and the wider public. As a “How” Strategy, SES is a set of enablers empowering UNICEF colleagues to reach advocacy, public engagement and fundraising goals with individuals: driving positive supporter evolution and personalized supporter journeys worldwide; leveraging state-of -the-art technologies and information to customize experiences locally and fostering positive change and collaboration within UNICEF.

It is UNICEF’s united effort to bring together PFP, DOC, ICTD divisions, and Global Volunteers Office with National Committees and Regional and Country Offices and engage individuals to reach results for children and young people.

How can you make a difference?

The individual contractor will play a critical role in improving country capacity to deliver optimal supporter experience, commitment, and loyalty, encompassing project administration, project execution and market roll outs. It will sit within Private Fundraising and Partnerships (PFP). The individual contractor will join as part of the Supporter Engagement Strategy (SES) team and will report to the SES Senior Coordinator.

The individual contractor will be tasked to co-develop a go-to-market strategy and help guide the target country’s implementation and application of supporter centered principles in the activities by implementing the technology, enhancing listening to, interacting with, and measuring satisfaction of individuals. In addition, the professional will co-lead in organizing project activities through communicating risks, opportunities, coordinating meetings and resources, equipment, and information.

MAIN TASKS
 
The individual contractor will provide strategic and tactical direction in the roll out of the initiative, drive the implementation to get SES to market, the role will work closely with the SES Senior Coordinator and Program Manager to ensure supporter satisfaction and loyalty principles are ingrained in all activities of SES by providing guidance and leadership. The individual contractor will ultimately provide leadership in the organization’s overall plans, actions and deliverables related to this initiative across three categories: Go-to-Market Leadership & Deployment; Improving supporter experience, commitment, and loyalty; and Enterprise stewardship.
 
Go-to-Market Leadership & Deployment ( 75%)
 
The Go-to-Market role consists of two areas: 1) Onboarding, preparing, and leading the selected markets in the implementation, and 2) Project management to ensure global, regional and local efficiency.
 
1) Onboarding, preparing, and leading markets
  • Co-develop the strategy for the market deployment, implementation and operationalization of new technologies and techniques to improve supporter engagement and experience, along with a comprehensive business learning curriculum to ensure the proper market adoption of new systems and techniques.
  • Model target market-adoption roadmap and economic impact, including operational and staff benefits, documenting fact-based impact across all areas supported by the new ecosystem.
  • Work with global and regional technology teams to ensure the development of technical solutions successfully address market needs, are fit -for-purpose and have an ongoing support structure.
  • Assess and document target countries practices in supporter engagement, with a view to close gaps in technology and techniques that improve their supporter engagement, while ensuring staff is up-skilled and there is ongoing support of the new solutions implemented.
  • Work cross-functionally with ICTD, IG, and local markets in documenting business needs and ensuring they become technical requirements.

2) Project Management for global, regional, and local efficiency

  • Establish a communication process with key decision points and timelines across all aspects of the initiative, ensuring stakeholders are informed and equipped to make decisions.
  • Ensuring project deadlines are met and provide progress reports on functions implemented and up-dates on the implementation of the solution.
  • Assess project risks and issues and provide solutions where applicable.

Improving supporter experience, commitment and loyalty across SES activities (15%)

Support Senior Coordinator and Leadership team:

  • Establish relationship with regional and target countries leadership to secure project commitment and support.
  • Work cross-functionally and at all levels, including with the Steering Committee and other constituents, coordinating narratives to ensure decision points are well structured for decision-making.

Develop requirements and guidance to enhance supporter interaction and feedback CORE:

  • Monitor industry trends of new tools and techniques in marketing and supporter engagement, broadening solutions and networks by bridging conversations and formulating new partnerships with leading solutions – working with the broader SES team to assess and implement where applicable.
  • Participate in Core Solution development activities providing expertise on supporter experience.

Enterprise Stewardship (10%):

  • Be an ambassador for UNICEF and its supporters, supporting the delivery of the vision and ensuring that the charity’s profile and reputation are enhanced.
  • Ensure stakeholder views are managed towards the best solution.
DELIVERABLES
 
The efficiency and effectiveness of support provided by the Supporter Experience Lead ensures that a strong relationship is built between the SES Initiative, UNICEF cross-divisional leadership, and ensure that colleagues in HQ and local offices have the desire, knowledge and ability to implement new ways of working.
 
Deliverables:
1. Continual support to SES Leadership Team to deliver SES Deployment Suite to markets:
a. SES Deployment Suite plan set in place and being leveraged by markets.
b. Roll out the initiative in select markets, and preparation of pipeline markets completed.
c. Country-level ongoing support model is built and in place.
d. Roadmap for geographical expansion approved by all related parties.
 
2. Continual support to SES Senior Coordinator to improve supporter satisfaction in key countries and ensure that CORE components are being fully leveraged, including:
a. Recommendations to increase supporter interaction and feedback through global CORE solution, based on external best practices and internal consultation.
b. Contribute to the development of a supporter experience centric model used by markets as the foundation for hypotheses-building and testing.
c. Provide leadership and solutions to countries seeking to transform their relationship with supporters using CRM technology, including improvement of personas, journeys and experience.
d. Collaboration to create of a regional support structure to enable the timely and effective roll out of CORE system in markets. (ie: LTAs, TOR development, etc.)
 
3. Internal and external process improvements implemented, calendars, record keeping, and clear descriptions of ongoing roles and maintenance activities.
 
4. Project risks identified, and issues flagged when appropriate.
 
5. Briefing notes to project stakeholders prepared where needed, including progress reports, decks and presentations to leadership.
 
6. Documents lessons learned and appropriate documentation of the project.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • An advanced university degree in one of the following fields is required: Marketing, Communications, Non-profit or Business Management, or another relevant field.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ proven experience in marketing, product development and project management, with experience in delivering results at global and individual market-levels.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing new product market strategies.
  • Expertise in change management tools and practices required.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience as a principal in customer service projects focused on satisfaction and loyalty.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in matrixed, multi-stakeholder projects with demonstrable results, and stakeholder satisfaction.
  • Experience with digital campaigning using CRM (ex: Salesforce)
  • Background in capacity building and training.
  • Fluency in English is required. Working knowledge of another UN language is an asset.
