Purpose of Activity/Assignment:
The purpose of the assignment is to support capacity building of state universities in Georgia in finalizing and delivery of bachelor programmes in early childhood education
Scope of Work:
The consultancy envisions: (i) conducting online workshops (total of 24 hours) for a group of 35 university professors/lecturers; (ii) supporting university academic teams in finalizing BA programmes and developing at least 2 core course syllabi. Consultancy consists of 19 working days, online, without travel requirement. Consultancy days will be stretched over the period of 15 September – 15 November, 2021.

1. Tasks/Milestone:
Review the draft BA programmes of 6 state universities; desk review of ECE Educators National Professional Standards, and ECE Educators BA programme standards
Brief report on draft BA programmes, with recommendations for improvement
2 days September
Develop online workshop plan (total of 24 hours – 3-hour sessions distributed over 8 days) and necessary materials, integrating the following major topics:
– Developing BA programme in ECE: key principles, best practices, quality assurance and assessment.
– Innovative teaching methods for ECE BA programmes
– BA dissertation methodology
– Organizing student practice; building partnerships with preschools for student practice; Mentoring/coaching of students.
The workshop should be based on the principle of project-based learning. Workshop plan should include specific activities/tasks to be completed by the university teams between the sessions; groupwork sessions, discussion points, reading materials
Workshop detailed plan with necessary materials, finalized in coordination with the UNICEF education section

Conduct online workshops (total of 24 hours – 3 hour sessions distributed over 8 days) for a group of 35 university professors/lecturers
Workshops conducted in line with the developed plan
4 days October
Support six university academic teams (3 half days per university) in finalizing BA programmes and developing at least two core course syllabi.
Individual mentoring with six state university ECE academic teams conducted; BA programmes revised and finalized; syllabi for two core courses developed for each BA programme.
9 Days October/ November
• At least 8 years of academic research in the field of early childhood education and care;
• At least 5 Years of teaching ECEC in higher education institution;
• Experience with developing ECEC teacher pre-service training programmes;
• Work experience in a developing country context, preferably Eastern Europe/Central Asia
• Experience in conducting interactive trainings or workshops.
• Proficiency in English
Remarks:
Individuals engaged under a consultancy or individual contract will not be considered “staff members” under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations and UNICEF’s policies and procedures, and will not be entitled to benefits provided therein (such as leave entitlements and medical insurance coverage). Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors.
