Are you interested in exploring how the notion of ‘peace’ can be applied to a context traditionally viewed as peaceful (such as Sweden)? Do you want to know what it is like to work for an international peacebuilding institute that supports peace through local partnerships and inclusive collaboration? Do you want the opportunity to get hands-on experience in project management and implementation? Then this internship opportunity with the Life & Peace Institute’s (LPI’s) Sweden Programme is for you!
Peacebuilding methods and tools are invaluable when it comes to creating and contributing to peace in conflict-affected countries. However, countries traditionally viewed as peaceful, such as Sweden, also benefit greatly from applying such methods and tools to address the complex societal challenges that they face. With its Sweden Programme, LPI aims to bring this understanding of the value of a peacebuilding approach to counter complex societal issues to Sweden, based on its history of over 35 years of having worked in partnership with local actors to promote peace in the Horn of Africa.
As an intern with LPI’s Sweden Programme you will become a core member of the team, helping to shape the organisation’s work in Sweden. The work done within the Sweden Programme can vary greatly and as an intern you will contribute to our set goals while we also try to tailor some tasks to your interests. You will have a wide range of tasks and responsibilities that may range from representing LPI in external meetings and events, assisting with administrative tasks, and supporting the implementation of LPI’s Peacefinders initiative, to mention a few.
Within LPI’s Peacefinders project, you will support the Project Officer on tasks as necessary, which may include planning and implementation of project events (such as workshops, seminars, and other events). You may also be involved in other activities related to the Peacefinders initiative in various ways. It will be an opportunity to get hands-on experience of what it is like to implement a project within a non-governmental organisation. Though your focus will lie on supporting the Sweden Programme, you may also work with and become familiar with LPI’s other programmes and units.
During your time with LPI, you will become a member of the LPI family and your opinions and suggestions will help shape the work of the organisation as a whole.
