Our university boasts premier undergraduate natural resource programs, such as the Fisheries and Water Resources Discipline. We currently host the Wisconsin Cooperative Fishery Research Unit (USGS), the Aquatic Biomonitoring Laboratory, the Center for Watershed Science and Education, and several joint research efforts with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, including the Fisheries Analysis Center.   

Working as an Assistant Professor of Fisheries involves teaching, advising, conducting research, and mentoring undergraduate students in this discipline. Opportunities exist for involvement in research (undergraduate and graduate), outreach, and international programs to meet the University scholarship and service requirements. Experience in and a desire to work with various student learning experiences and backgrounds are expected.  

Qualifications Include: 

  • Ph.D. in Fisheries or a closely related field 
  • An ability to operate field equipment necessary for teaching and research 
  • A wide variety of fisheries-specific expertise and skills 
  • strong quantitative skills and extensive field-based experience 
  • Demonstrated excellence in undergraduate teaching 
  • Collaborative teamwork experience across private, federal, state, municipal, and tribal agencies
