Introduction
General Objective
Hire a consulting firm specializing in Geographic Information Systems
(GIS) applied to healthcare to design and implement a comprehensive database
and a georeferenced national map of traditional healers in Guinea-Bissau, and analyze their complementarity with the modern healthcare system.
2.2 Specific Objectives
The selected firm will, notably, have to:
• Develop, in close collaboration with the DSSCPMT and stakeholders, a
detailed methodological protocol for the GIS mapping of traditional healers,
in accordance with national standards and international best practices.
• Geolocate, using GPS tools and/or mobile applications, each point of
service (place of practice and, where applicable, place of hospitalization or
product preparation) of traditional healers identified throughout the
national territory of Guinea-Bissau.
• Document and record the contact information, sociodemographic profile, and professional
and practical details of each traditional medicine practitioner (practitioner category, type of
practices, conditions treated, use of medicinal plants, referrals and counter-referrals, use of conventional medications).
• Analyze the complementarity and interfaces between traditional medicine and
modern medicine. Patient flow, referral and counter-referral practices, combined use of traditional and biomedical treatments,
and mutual perceptions among stakeholders.
• Develop a cartographic atlas (print and digital) and an interactive GIS dashboard
to visualize the geographic distribution of traditional healers, their density,
their characteristics, and their proximity to healthcare facilities.
• Develop and complete an integrated database, including the
georeferencing of community health workers (to be completed by
December 2025) and data on traditional healers practicing in communities
across the country.
• Formulate operational recommendations for the gradual, safe, and
regulated integration of traditional medicine practitioners into national health policies and plans,
in line with the Traditional Medicine Policy and the
National Strategic Plan.
