Organization Mission

The United Nations is an international organization founded in 1945 and committed to maintaining international peace and security; developing friendly relations among nations; promoting social progress, better living standards and human rights. Due to its unique international character, and the powers vested in its founding Charter, the Organization takes action on a wide range of issues, and provides a forum for its 193 Member States to express their views, through the General Assembly, the Security Council, the Economic and Social Council and other bodies and committees. The work of the United Nations touches every corner of the globe and focuses on a broad range of fundamental issues, like sustainable development, protection of the environment and refugees, disaster relief and mitigation, counter terrorism, as well as disarmament and non-proliferation.

We have 12 newly elected treaty body members. An induction will be conducted on the 10th and 11th February. It will be sessions of 2 hours each. We are trying to bring it to one day of 3 hours on one of these dates. This is yet to be confirmed.

Context

The duration is yet to be confirmed – it will either be one day for 3 hours or 2 days of 2 hours each total 4 hours. This will be a teams meeting. The tentative date is 10 and 11 February.

Key Responsibilities

We are looking for six online volunteers to support with interpretation remotely during one session of our online event. We will need 2 online volunteers for each of the following language: English, French and Spanish.

Required Skills and Experience

Professional proficiency in at least one official language (their main language) and possess strong skills in at least two others with proven ability to interpret or translate accurately and fluently.
