Main purpose of job:
The British High Commission in Malé is seeking a Project Officer to support the delivery of the UK’s Counter Terrorism Protective Security & Attack Response Programme (PSARP) in the Maldives.
This role sits at the heart of the High Commission’s security and counter terrorism work and directly contributes to the delivery of UK security objectives in the Maldives. The successful candidate will play a key role in managing programme activity, supporting capacity building initiatives, and strengthening collaboration between the UK and Maldivian authorities on counter terrorism and protective security matters.
The role involves close collaboration with colleagues across the British High Commission, the wider UK Government and the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) in London, alongside regular engagement with Maldivian government ministries, law enforcement agencies, aviation security stakeholders, international partners and other organisations involved in security and counter terrorism efforts.
The successful candidate will support the management and delivery of the Counter Terrorism Protect, Prepare and Pursue programme fund, ensuring that projects are implemented effectively, aligned with UK strategic objectives and deliver tangible outcomes. The role also includes monitoring programme activity, coordinating engagement with partners, supporting visits and training activities, and providing reporting and analysis on security and counter terrorism developments.
As the High Commission’s focal point for Aviation Security, the postholder will maintain close links with relevant authorities and stakeholders, support aviation security cooperation between the UK and Maldives, and help identify opportunities to strengthen capabilities and resilience in this important sector.
The role also contributes to wider security and policy engagement, helping to coordinate UK Government activity on counter terrorism related issues, build effective partnerships and support the delivery of shared security objectives.

Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve:
- Managing the local financial spend on the UK Protect and Prepare, and Pursue programmes with a clear focus on value for money and delivering sustainability, including forecasting and maintaining accurate records of financial expenditure to a standard that satisfies UK government auditors;
- Programme management including effective monitoring and evaluation techniques to ensure the programme stays on track;
- The successful candidate will need to develop and maintain an excellent network of senior level contacts, particularly across central and local government, law enforcement and civil society. Strong relationships will need to be built with other teams within the High Commission;
- The development and maintaining of databases and filing systems using IT packages, including MS Teams, MS Office, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel;.
- Organising programme related bilateral visits and events, including arranging visas, booking travel and accommodation and issuing delegate invitations;
- Organising and attend CT related meetings, compiling minutes and detailing agreed actions;
- Focal point for Aviation Security matters including supporting the deliveries of AVSEC equipment and engineer visits.
Other duties:
- Ad hoc jobs as assigned by the Line Manager, High Commissioner and Deputy High Commissioner;
- BHC Corporate Services support as required;
- Customs clearance and other clerical tasks;
- Deliver letters and other official documents;
- Arrange other transport as required e.g. boats and flights

Essential qualifications, skills and experience
- Have at least a bachelor’s degree;
- Possess strong interpersonal skills, a positive attitude to working flexible hours and the ability to work well independently and as part of a small team;
- Have excellent organisational skills and the ability to prioritise tasks and work to deadlines;
- Have good oral and written communication skills and a high standard of IT literacy, particularly with MS Office products.

Other benefits and conditions of employment
For British High Commission (BHC) candidates, the Country Based Staff BHC Terms & Conditions will apply.
For other than BHC candidates, starting salary will be MVR 29,584 per month. Other benefits include 13th month’s salary (pro-rated) and medical insurance coverage.
No relocation or any other related costs or assistance will be provided. FCDO does not pay for any travelling, accommodation & relocation expenses incurred and/or accept any financial risk, including cancellation or reschedule costs.
Please note – BHC does not deduct tax at source and employees are required to ensure that any requirements of local income-tax law are complied with in full. Employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary, e.g. some non-local national staff and some spouses or partners of UK diplomatic staff, will have their salaries abated by an equivalent amount.
