Position Summary
The Technology Specialist – Facilities & Drones is responsible for managing and supporting specialized hardware and software used by Facilities Planning and Management (FPM) to ensure efficient operation and utilization of technology resources within FPM. This includes the management of FPM equipment hardware and all data collection workflows from GPS, Drone, and application user interface.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Drone Management

  • Manages the drone program, overseeing fleet of enterprise level drones.
  • As the primary drone pilot for the drone program, conducts and schedules drone flights for data collection, ensuring compliance with aviation regulations and safety protocols.
  • Performs routine maintenance on drones and associated equipment and calibrates sensors and instruments to maintain optimal performance.
  • Works with University and outside entities to communicate the capability of the drone program and incorporating into business needs.

Specialized Technology & Data Collection and Processing

  • Collaborates with WUIT helpdesk to manage, deploy and support all hardware and software for Facilities Planning and Management.
  • Works with Mechanics and other FPM members to optimize their use of technology as it pertains to the goals of the organization.
  • Collects and processes data of various formats including but not limited to GPS locations, drone imagery, and GIS data to provide aerial imagery and thermal and visual inspections of fixed assets.

Planning

  • Works with other team members to maintain and enhance current data workflows and processes. 10%
  • Makes recommendations for new hardware and software.

Leadership

  • Works with the Facilities Planning and Management users to get them engaged in using technology.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Facilities systems and related software/hardware.
  • Working knowledge of GPS or other survey equipment.
  • Experience with GIS and the ESRI product suite.
  • Familiarity with testing techniques and software.
  • Prior experience in higher education or facilities environments a plus.
  • Experience with data collection hardware or techniques.â‹
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Ability to work to deadlines.
  • Ability to work well independently.
  • Ability to work with a team.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Demonstrated understanding of computer systems, networks, data collection techniques.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelorâ™s degree in computer science, information technology or related discipline.
  • Two years of relevant experience purchasing, supporting, or managing technology or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • FAA Part 107 certification.

Grade
G12

Salary Range
$57,300.00 – $97,700.00 / Annually

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one’s qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
