UNV: Digital Communications and Social Media Advocacy Support – Ottawa

Organization Mission

Action Lab for Development is dedicated to advancing education, food security, and advocacy to empower entrepreneurs, newcomers and promote creative economies in Canada. We envision a future where local innovators and newcomers have the resources to thrive through growth and development.
Our mission includes five key objectives:
We provide tools and opportunities for creative innovation and entrepreneurship, focusing on continuous improvement.
We enable networking and training activities to connect entrepreneurs, institutions, and partners.
We educate entrepreneurs and newcomers about fair business practices and social responsibility.
We guide emerging entrepreneurs in understanding social and business ecosystems through essential skills and techniques.
We encourage youth involvement in volunteering and ensure universal access to research and education by building digital platforms for community knowledge and supporting local ingenuity.
Action Lab For Development was registered as an Extra-Provincial Corporation in Alberta-Canada in 2024, granted special consultative status by the United Nations Economic and Social Council in 2020, reflecting our commitment to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. Our primary focus areas include:
• Food Security
• Advocacy
• Education
• These initiatives aim to positively impact local innovators, including newcomers in Canada who may be facing challenges related to integration into a new environment and starting life. Our research shows that access to education, particularly in social entrepreneurship, is a powerful tool for these individuals. It enables them to turn their experiences into practical solutions that benefit their communities.

Context

Action Lab for Development empowers communities through knowledge, focusing on social change initiatives. Online volunteers will innovate social media strategies to raise awareness on entrepreneurship, poverty alleviation, youth mentorship and MoralityCode AI App, driving visibility and engagement.
As part of our Alberta operations, we are now looking to expand our impact by developing programs that serve communities in Edmonton and beyond. These programs will focus on entrepreneurship training, building creative and tech skills, providing social services, startup acceleration, security services, poverty alleviation, and youth mentorship. As a new organization in Canada, we are actively seeking partnerships, funding, and opportunities to integrate into the local community and adapt our proven models to meet the unique needs of Canadian communities. With your support, we aim to amplify our impact, address pressing community needs, and contribute meaningfully to the social and economic development of the region.

The third online volunteer will support content development by assisting with the creation of one blog post and materials for one live stream per week. Tasks include preparing written content based on information, themes, and materials provided by the organisation, as well as developing background information, discussion points, and supporting materials for weekly live stream topics. The volunteer will also provide a weekly report summarising the content produced and available engagement indicators to support monitoring, evaluation, and continuous improvement.

Tasks include supporting the preparation and technical setup of one 45-minute live stream each week, assisting with the publication of one blog post per week, monitoring audience participation and social media engagement during each live session, and contributing to the preparation of a brief post-event engagement summary. The volunteer will also support the collection of data on participation, reach, and audience feedback to inform the final engagement report.
