Who we are
The British Embassy in Vilnius is part of a world‑wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas.
Based in Vilnius and working as part of the British Embassy’s Moscow Communications team, the Assistant Digital Officer will support the team’s digital communications efforts, helping deliver engaging content to Russian-speaking audiences across the Embassy’s social media platforms.
Working within a small, agile communications team, the role holder will assist with content creation, translation and multimedia production to support UK Government communications objectives in Russia.
The role reports to the Digital Media Officer and sits within the broader Press and Public Affairs section of the British Embassy Moscow. The team works closely with policy colleagues, the Ambassador’s office and London‑based communications teams to deliver timely, accurate and engaging digital content.
What you will be doing
As Assistant Digital Officer, you will support the delivery of digital communications for Russian‑speaking audiences, contributing to social media content, translation and multimedia outputs in line with UK Government communications objectives.
- Content creation and social media management
- Create engaging social media content in Russian and English for Embassy channels, including Telegram, VK, Instagram, Facebook and X;
- Draft, edit and publish social media posts aligned with UK Government messaging and campaign objectives;
- Design graphics and visual content using Canva and Adobe Creative Suite;
- Maintain content calendars and ensure timely publication across platforms;
- Monitor comments and engagement, and flag issues to the Digital Media Officer.
- Translation and language support
- Translate content from English to Russian and from Russian to English to a high standard;
- Publish content such as press releases on UK Government platforms;
- Ensure translations are culturally appropriate and resonate with target audiences;
- Support policy colleagues with translation of digital materials;
- Review Russian‑language content for accuracy, tone and style.
- Multimedia production support
- Assist with video filming, including setting up equipment and supporting shoots;
- Edit video content using Canva and Adobe Premiere;
- Cover filming duties when the Digital Media Officer is on leave or unavailable;
- Support the production of multimedia content for campaigns and events;
- Maintain a media asset library and archive.
- Campaign and event support
- Support the delivery of digital campaigns aligned with UK Government priorities;
- Assist with live coverage of Embassy events and visits;
- Coordinate with London‑based digital teams on cross‑network campaigns;
- Contribute creative ideas to support audience engagement.
- Administrative tasks
- Maintain digital asset management systems;
- Support team reporting and metrics tracking;
- Carry out other administrative duties as required.

- Demonstrated experience creating digital content (graphics, short‑form video and social posts) for social media platforms, ideally including Telegram, VK, Instagram, Facebook and X;
- Ability to use Canva confidently for graphics and basic video editing, with willingness and aptitude to learn Adobe Creative Suite tools, including Photoshop and Premiere;
- Excellent copywriting and editing skills, with the ability to adapt messaging for different platforms and audiences while maintaining accuracy and tone;
- Strong organisational and time management skills, including managing content calendars, balancing competing deadlines and working at pace within a small team;
- Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues across communications teams, policy teams and London‑based partners to deliver coherent digital outputs;
- Understanding of social media best practice, audience behaviour and trends relevant to Russian‑speaking digital environments.

This is a full-time, 35 net hours per week, fixed-term contract of 18 months, at Administrative Officer (AO) grade.
Flexible working can be considered, a mix between office/home-based working is currently practice but increased presence in the office will be expected.
The successful candidate will be subject to professional background check, security clearance and probationary period.
The start date indicated in the advert is an indicative date and may be brought forward or delayed depending on individual circumstances.

While the role supports the work of the British Embassy Moscow, the postholder will be based in Vilnius. Therefore, all applicants should have the right to live and work in Lithuania. The British Embassy does not sponsor for work permits. Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy in Vilnius are subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to local Lithuanian employment law.
Visa/work permit requirements: Candidates must currently hold the independent right to live and work in Lithuania and be prepared to ensure that right remains throughout the scope of the contract.
