The British Embassy in Mexico is part of a worldwide network representing British climate, development, political, economic and consular interests overseas. We have an exciting opportunity for an internship position within the Climate and Development team to provide students and recent graduates from diverse academic backgrounds to a first-hand experience with the day-to-day working environment of an Embassy.
The core purpose of the role is to support the Climate and Development team to deliver key activities related to the UK-Mexico strategic priorities, including on climate, nature, water, energy, green finance, science, technology and innovation, development and women and girls. The successful candidate will operate within a multidisciplinary and multicultural setting, allowing engagement with various stakeholders in Mexico and in the UK and hands-on in a wide range of technical, administrative and logistical tasks in a fast-paced environment.
The successful candidate will:
- Assist in the organisation of events, conferences, workshops, roundtables, trainings, missions and official visits that highlight UK-Mexico cooperation in climate, nature, energy, development, science, technology, innovation and women and girls initiatives. Manage invitations, travel logistics, venue booking, catering and event set up and provide on-site logistical support during events and coordinate post-event follow-up. (40%)
- Support the organisation and coordination of meetings with key UK and Mexican stakeholders. Draft agendas, book meeting rooms and manage overall logistics. Take minutes, prepare reports and track follow-up actions. Attend meetings and represent the Embassy, as required. (25%)
- Support knowledge management by gathering relevant information, maintaining excel databases, keeping substantive and logistics documents up to date. Document key discussions, synthetising and summarising information, prepare inputs, as required. Draft and contribute to strategic communication materials, including readouts, reports, presentations, newsletters and social media posts. Conduct research on Mexican science and technology policies, law initiatives and digital transformation. Contribute to briefings, presentations and reports that inform Embassy strategy and outreach. - Participate in learning and development experiences and activities that complement advanced studies and support professional growth. (5%)
- Support and contribute to corporate initiatives and cross-cutting team efforts within the Climate and Development team. (5%)
- Perform any other duties as required by the team. (5%)

Interns are selected on a competitive basis.
The following minimum qualifications are required:
- Strong interest in UK-Mexico relations.
- Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme or have recently graduated with a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent)
- Excellent communication skills (written and oral) in English and Spanish are essential.
- Excellent interactive and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work in a multicultural environment.
- Excellent organisation and time management skills, with a high-level attention to detail.
- Knowledge and proficient use of IT (e.g., Microsoft Office applications, video conference software).
- Enthusiastic, creative, pro-active, self-motivated person, with the ability to work collaboratively and individually.

Candidates must be able to live and work in Mexico in their own right at time of application.
The successful candidate will be subject to a security clearance and professional reference checks.
Employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary, eg some non-local national staff and some spouses or partners of UK diplomatic staff, will have their salaries abated by an equivalent amount.
Appointable candidates who were unsuccessful may be placed on a ‘reserve list’. If during the reserve period of 6 months the same or a largely similar role becomes available, that role may be offered to the second or subsequent candidate.
