Main purpose of job:
Are you ready to embark on a unique professional journey in one of the most dynamic and prestigious workplaces in Lima? The British Embassy in Lima is seeking two highly motivated interns to support its day-to-day operations. These are fascinating roles and provide an excellent opportunity to gain experience working for a major diplomatic mission in Peru. You will gain hands-on experience in embassy activities, develop professional and diplomatic skills, and contribute to the Mission’s objectives. You must be enrolled in an undergraduate programme or recently graduated from diverse relevant fields such as natural and environmental sciences, economics and finance, or policy and international relations.
In this role you will provide support to the Climate, Nature, and Infrastructure (CNI) Team, which mobilises flows of accessible, quality climate and nature finance, including investment in sustainable infrastructure and clean power, and scale up innovative bio-based business models to create incentives to halt deforestation in the Amazon linked to Peru’s Nationally Determined Contributions and National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan. The aim is to accelerate Peru’s transition towards a low-carbon, nature-positive economy, creating opportunities for Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities.
The successful applicants will work directly in one of the thematic priority areas – one intern will be focused on green finance, and the other one on bioeconomy, depending on your background and interests. The “Green Finance Associate” will contribute to the development of economic incentives and financial mechanisms to ensure the financial sustainability of locally-led conservation efforts, while the “Bio-economy Associate” will help replicate bio-based enterprises with focus on anchor companies that keep the forest standing. Applicants are encouraged to specify which thematic area they are applying for.
Both interns will have the opportunity to learn about these thematic areas by supporting the delivery of projects, through engagement with local stakeholders, preparation of events, visits and trips, and by assisting with logistical and administrative tasks. You will also support the wider management of the team, contribute to the life of the embassy and interact with multiple UK government departments, from the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), to the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) or the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA).
Roles and responsibilities:

- Conduct research and gather information on priority topics (e.g., economic trends, private investment opportunities, mapping international buyers for bio-businesses, stakeholder mapping, innovative financial mechanisms) to support strategic analysis.
- Support the embassy’s stakeholder engagement objectives (related to green finance and bioeconomy); arrange meetings when required and feed into briefing as needed.
- Contribute to project monitoring and reporting under the guidance of thematic leads, including engaging with implementers, support in the preparation of meetings, and reviewing deliverables.
- One intern will act as communications champion for the team, but both interns will play a role in supporting the preparation of communications materials for the thematic area they support.
- Maintain communication with government institutions, international donors, multilaterals, civil society, and private‑sector stakeholders, e.g., through the publication of a quarterly newsletter.
Administrative and Logistics Support (30%)
- Support the team with budget/financial tasks (in coordination with the Programme Manager); support knowledge management and Teams files order; summarise meetings, missions, correspondence, and reports, and compile documents; contribute to contacts database updates.
- Provide administrative support to other members of the team as required: e.g. diary management, booking rooms or travel, setting up meetings, organising transport, translation of documents.
- Provide logistical and administrative support for official visits, scoping trips, meetings, launches, workshops, training sessions, and other capacity‑building activities.
- Keep the team’s calendar (white boards) up to date.

- Actively participate in performance appraisal process and take on board feedback.
