The British Government’s Consulate in Los Angeles (BCG LA) is offering an exciting opportunity to join the Corporate Services Team as Corporate Services Officer (CSO). In this role, you will be part of a dynamic international environment spanning the British Government’s extensive network across the United States and the United Kingdom, which includes the Embassy in Washington, the UK Mission to the United Nations, multiple Consulates, and other Government Offices—comprising over 900 staff and supporting the work of approximately 30 UK government departments and agencies.
Reporting to the Corporate Services Manager, the Corporate Services Officer will contribute to strengthening UK-US collaboration in Los Angeles by providing support in key areas that foster the Consulate’s operations, compliance, and business continuity.
We are looking for a motivated, enthusiastic, proactive, and creative individual with experience in office management. You’ll bring strong IT Skills, the ability to prioritise, and a commitment to high-quality work.
Main purpose of the role:
The job will involve a wide variety of Administrative, Finance, HR, Protocol, Facilities Management, Compliance, and IT management activities. The Corporate Services Officer will support the Corporate Services Manager with finance, facilities management and day to day administrative tasks. The jobholder will be the point of contact for suppliers and contractors, will manage actions for property compliance and will keep record of inventories. The Corporate Services Officer will support the Corporate Services Manager with on boarding of new employees, managing local IT and support with Crisis preparedness. Other ad hoc tasks might be required.
This is hugely varied and stretching role– no two days will be the same! The Consulate has an extremely busy and ambitious events agenda as LA moves towards the 2026 FIFA World cup and 2028 Olympics and Paralympics. This successful applicant will provide essential support to BCG staff through their Corporate Services responsibilities.
Roles and responsibilities:
Estates/Property Management (30%)
- Work with the Corporate Services Manager to ensure Consulate’s residential properties are proactively and periodically managed (both proactive and reactive maintenance as required).
- Supervision of vendors and contractors to ensure their work is completed to required standards.
- Provide support to deliver an efficient and smooth-running Estate to maintain a safe, healthy and sustainable office and residential environment.
- Respond to service requests, Health & Safety and security compliance and coordinate with Corporate Services Manager to address needs.
- Maintain an Estate/Property maintenance database.
- Maintain inventories of assets: Residence inventory, Government Art Collection, entertainment supplies, domestic equipment, other residential furniture. Keep inventories to date.
Information Technology (25%)
- You will serve as the key IT support point of contact for BCG LA staff, working with US Network IT team in Washington, DC and the UK based IT Help Desk to provide excellent customer service for IT issues arising and ensure that the Consulate IT systems function effectively.
- IT tasks include setting up IT for new starters, troubleshooting laptops/cell phones, activating building passes, etc (training will be provided).
Finance and Procurement (25%)
- Use the Consulate procurement and payment system to request purchase orders, “receive” goods/services, and make payments.
- Ensure all invoices are paid accurately and promptly and maintain a robust audit trail for all payments.
- Support procurement of services, vendors and contractors, maintaining a database of contacts and scheduled services.
- Support the completion of reconciliation forms for payments and liaise with Finance Department at British Embassy in Washington, DC to ensure payments have been accounted for.
Office and Personnel Management (15%)
- Ensure stationery, IT Equipment and other supplies remain properly stocked. Run periodic inventories to ensure proper office supplies management.
- Support HR tasks, including onboarding/offboarding staff
- Liaise Consulate staff and HR teams in Washington, DC on HR-related requests
- Support background checks/clearance processes for new staff
- Support Protocol requests and processes (including clearances for shipments from the UK, management of Diplomatic Mail and supporting in liaising with U.S. Department of State’s Office of Foreign Missions)
Other (5%)
- Assist in search for housing for incoming UK Diplomats to adhere to UK Government housing policy.
- Crisis/Emergency Management -Ensure Crisis Equipment and supplies are working effectively and are properly maintained. Participate in crisis training and exercising and be part of the Consulate-wide team response in the event of a crisis. Contribute to Crisis management plans.
- Opportunity to support/assist VIP events.
- Any other tasks as required.

Essential on arrival:
- Previous office management or customer service experience
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the confidence to communicate at all levels and effectively manage stakeholders.
- Strong team player with the ability to be proactive, work well with others and integrate into the wider FCDO US Network.
- Proficiency in the use internet applications and Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Teams, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint)

Core Hours/Hybrid Working
While many jobs in the US Network are able to offer flexibility in terms of working hours, core business hours are 09:30 to 15:00 (in the local time zone) Monday through Friday. Coverage for this role is typically Monday-Friday 08:30 to 16:30. Some flexibility can be offered and may also be required to ensure sufficient office coverage.
Employees will be expected to work from office full-time during the first 90 days of employment. After this time employees may work from home no more than 40% of the working week, subject to operational needs and line manager approval. Please note that this role requires a significant level of in-person attendance and may require work in the office for more than 60% of the working week.

Unique Tax Rules

The UK Government cannot withhold taxes (including FICA) on behalf of a US taxpayer. Instead, a US taxpayer is required to file taxes as if they are self-employed, and a FICA allowance is granted for those required to pay the employer contribution. Certain categories of staff (for example dual UK-US nationals and some visa holders) who work at Consulates General are not subject to US taxes. For those not subject to US taxes the UK Government reduces gross pay to a level broadly equivalent to taxed net pay. There are also social security implications for dual UK-US nationals. Please keep all this in mind when looking at the salary and the benefits package.
