The British Embassy in Skopje is part of a worldwide network, representing British political, economic, commercial and consular interests overseas and is currently looking to recruit a Driver/Maintenance Officer, Corporate Services.
About the Role
We are looking for a reliable and proactive Driver/Maintenance Officer to join our Embassy’s Corporate Services team. This dual role is essential to ensuring smooth transport services and maintaining Embassy properties to the highest standards. If you are safety-conscious, discreet, and hands-on, this could be the perfect opportunity for you.
Key Responsibilities
Transport Services (40%):
- Provide safe, punctual, and professional driving for staff and official visitors, including airport transfers and events.
- Maintain Embassy vehicles, ensuring regular servicing and compliance with documentation.
- Assist with deliveries and official correspondence.
Property Maintenance (40%):
- Carry out routine and reactive maintenance, including basic electrical, plumbing, painting, and seasonal tasks.
- Conduct regular inspections and liaise with contractors for specialised work.
- Ensure compliance with Health & Safety standards.
Administrative Support (15%):
- Maintain accurate logs and assist with operational tasks.
- Support compliance checks and documentation updates.
Other Duties (5%):
- Provide out-of-hours support for urgent transport or maintenance needs.
- Assist with Embassy events and functions.

Our ideal candidate shows:
- Full professional proficiency in English and Macedonian (written and spoken) at C1 level (CEFR).
- Valid driving license and least 2 years proven experience as a professional driver.
- Practical skills in basic electrical, plumbing, and general repair work.
- Strong knowledge of vehicle maintenance and safety procedures.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good communication skills, discretion, and customer service orientation.
- Basic IT skills for record-keeping and scheduling.

Nice to have:
- Previous experience working within a diplomatic mission or international organization is an advantage.
- Trade certification or vocational qualification in a relevant field (e.g., electrician, carpenter, plumber).

This is a full-time, fixed-term 12 month contract with possibility of renewal.
The British Embassy has an active learning and development culture and there will be opportunities for informal training and shadowing.
The expected start date is March 25th 2026 however, the job holder should be available to start as soon as possible.
The successful candidate will be subject to professional background check, security clearance.
Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy in Skopje are subject to terms and conditions of service according to local (Republic of North Macedonia) employment law.
Visa/work permit requirements:
Candidates must currently hold the independent right to live and work in Republic of North Macedonia and be prepared to ensure that right remains throughout the scope of the contract.

Learning and Development Opportunities:
The British Government offers a wide range of formal and informal learning opportunities, including online courses, job shadowing, and sector-specific training. The jobholder will have access to defensive driving courses, Health and Safety training, and other professional development programmes. Support will be provided by the Transport Manager and a collaborative team environment, ensuring opportunities for growth and skill enhancement.
Expenditure:
Government Procurement Card holder of up to £ 10,000 per month.
