The British Embassy in Bucharest is looking for an enthusiastic Economic Diplomacy Assistant Intern.
The internship position will support the Economic Diplomacy Team’s work on economics, energy and tech, with a chance to lead on their own projects and events. It is a great opportunity to build contacts, see how an Embassy runs and to engage with the Ambassador.
Roles and responsibilities:
- Support with background research on the Economic Diplomacy Team’s priority topics and current affairs (e.g.. energy, finance, macroeconomics, AI);
- Attend stakeholder meetings, events, conferences, and workshops. Provide readouts from meetings and take notes;
- Monitoring and analysing specific legislative and policy issues and trends from the Romanian or UK Government, commercial sector, or civil society;
- Support with arranging visits for UK officials to Romania and events linked to Embassy priorities;
- Support teams in the delivery of projects.

- Excellent command of spoken and written English and Romanian (at a minimum of C1 level according to CEFR*);
- Completed degree in International Economic Relations, Economics or Politics.
- Interest in the climate change agenda, AI, current economic and political affairs;
- Good organizational skills and ability to communicate with a wide range of audiences;
- An interest to develop by learning on the job;
- Basic IT skills.

This is a full-time, fixed-term contract for 12 months (35 hours net per week). Working hours are flexible and staff are entitled to time-off-in-lieu for agreed extra hours worked.
The annual leave entitlement is 25 days per year pro rata and the Embassy also enjoys a maximum of 14 Romanian / UK public holidays per year.
The monthly salary is 4325 RON gross. Staff also receive a monthly subscription to a medical centre. An individual personal development plan will be agreed with the successful candidate, which may include training outside Romania. The successful candidate will be subject to confirmation of a background check and security clearance, and satisfactory completion of a probationary period of 30 working days.
All applicants should have a pre-existing legal status to live and work in Romania. The British Embassy does not facilitate/sponsor visa applications and work permits. Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy are subject to terms and conditions service according to Romanian employment law.
Visa/work permit requirements: Candidates must currently hold the independent right to live and work in Romania and be prepared to ensure that right remains throughout the scope of the contract.
