The Economy and Prosperity Team are seeking to recruit an intern. The role will support both the Department for Business and Trade (DBT) and the wider Economy and Prosperity Team (E&P). The intern will work across all streams, under the supervision of a nominated line manager, supporting day‑to‑day operations, events, visits, and information management. This is a great opportunity to work cross a broad remit, providing experience in one of the Embassy’s key delivery areas.
Trade Support (Approximately 40%)
The intern will work closely with the DBT Director to support trade and investment activities, including:
- Providing administrative and coordination support based on daily interactions with clients and stakeholders.
- Recording and updating data, maintaining databases and contact lists, and supporting the preparation of presentations and briefing materials.
- Supporting the organisation and delivery of official meetings, events, and visits, including meeting coordination and logistical arrangements.
Economy and Prosperity Team Support (Approximately 40%)
The intern will provide general support across the Economy and Prosperity Team’s economic development portfolio, including, economic reform private sector development, trade policy and growth by:
- Supporting the organisation of meetings, speaker sessions, and expert engagements, including note taking and drafting meeting minutes when required.
- Providing logistical and administrative support to programme teams and coordinating with colleagues across the British Embassy Amman.
- Supporting preparations for incoming missions and official visits, including scheduling, logistics, and preparation of data and supporting documents.
- Assisting with the organisation of meetings and logistics for planned programme reviews.
- Undertaking desk-based research on thematic topics as needed.
Information and Data Management (Approximately 20%)
The intern will support effective information management across the team by:
- Reviewing and improving the structure of the team’s shared e library to ensure information is easy to access and retrieve.
- Uploading, organising, and maintaining internal and external reports and reference materials.
- Updating and maintaining stakeholder and partner contact databases.
- Providing administrative support for external speaker events.
Working Arrangements
- The intern will work with all members of the Economy and Prosperity Team, with tasks prioritised by the line manager and/or the team leader.
- The role requires good organisational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast paced working environment.
- The position offers exposure to trade, investment, and economic development work within a diplomatic mission, with primary responsibility for coordination and administrative support.

- Currently studying towards, or recently completed, a relevant undergraduate degree (e.g. economics, business, international relations, development studies, public policy, or related field).
- Strong organisational and administrative skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Good written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to take clear notes and draft simple summaries or meeting minutes.
- Confidence in using Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Working Hours and Remuneration
The Embassy aims to offer an attractive working environment and remuneration package for this role, including a remuneration of JOD 220 per month based on 37 hours per week.
There are no other allowances payable as part of this package. No accommodation nor relocation expenses are payable in connection with this internship position.
This is a full-time internship position on a fixed term basis for three (3) months, renewable for a further three (3) months subject to satisfactory performance and on on-going business requirement.
. This position is subject to one (1) month probation period. The appointment is subject to satisfactory local and UK security clearances. The selected candidate must have a right to live and work in Jordan.
Normal working hours at the Embassy are from Sundays to Wednesdays from 08:00-15:30 and Thursdays from 08:00-15:00. The Embassy operates a flexible working policy that allows staff to work different hours as well as allowing staff to work from home one day a week, based on operational requirements and agreement with the line manager, and in line with FCDO and Embassy policies. The successful candidate should be flexible in their approach to hours worked as these will also be dictated by operational needs and may involve working out of hours (evenings/ weekends).
