The British Embassy in Kuwait has a vacancy for the position of Political & Communications Support Officer, job grade Administrative Officer (AO).
Main Purpose of the Job:
The role provides comprehensive political, policy, and communications support to the British Embassy Kuwait, contributing to the delivery of UK objectives in Kuwait.
Working to the Embassy Communications officer, the role manages the Embassy’s digital and social media channels in English and Arabic, producing culturally sensitive and engaging content that showcases Embassy’s activity and amplifies key messages from London and the region, in close collaboration with colleagues in Kuwait and media hubs in Dubai and London.
The jobholder must be flexible and willing to work outside normal hours on an occasional basis to support evening events and urgent out-of-hours communications.
The jobholder also supports the Political Section by acting as a first point of contact for enquiries, organising meetings and calls with Kuwaiti officials and foreign embassies, assisting with policy-related research, briefing and senior visits from the UK, and providing Arabic language support where required. Responsibilities also include but are not limited to, managing logistical and administrative processes such as HERA requisitioning, database maintenance, and events coordination.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Management of the Embassy’s Social Media Channels:
- Assist in devising and managing content for the Embassy’s social media channels, with the aim of growing and diversifying our audience.
- Take high impact photos and videos during Embassy functions, visits etc. and edit the footage as required.
- Work with all teams within the Embassy to run social media campaigns in support of their respective objectives.
- Liaise with London and the regional media hub in Dubai on the latest FCDO and region-wide digital diplomacy efforts, using the Embassy’s social media channels to promote these in a way that accounts for local cultural sensitivities.
- Monitor and evaluate the success of social media engagement through Hootsuite or other platforms and pick up trends as they emerge to recommend improvements or ideas for new content.
Political Team Administrative Support:
- Acting as first point of contact for political enquiries (by phone, in person or by email) from members of the public and external organisations.
- Organising calls on Kuwaiti Officials, Foreign Embassies and International Organisations for Political Team members.
- Assisting with Arabic language needs.
- Providing logistical support for visits, events and external meetings.
- Be responsible for information management and maintaining and updating contact lists, CV’s and databases for the political section
- Assisting the team with general administrative tasks
- Translate documents from English to Arabic and Arabic to English, including official and open-source documents, often to tight deadlines, providing advice on any cultural-linguistic sensitivities.
The above list is not exhaustive and the jobholder will be required to be flexible and take on other ad hoc tasks as required, including participating in the Embassy’s emergency planning and any response to a crisis.

- Strong social media skills, including knowledge about monitoring the performance of posts on social media accounts such as Instagram and X.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both English and Arabic with ability to express ideas and messages clearly and concisely.
- Experience in translation of documentation from English to Arabic and Arabic to English.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office programmes (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams).
- Able to organise and prioritise workload and meet deadlines and changing priorities whilst maintaining close attention to detail and without compromising the quality of the work.

Working conditions and remuneration:
The Embassy aims to offer an attractive working environment and remuneration package for this role, including a non-negotiable gross salary of KWD 844.098 per month. The package includes a good level of medical insurance, a return flight fare to your home country for non-Kuwaitis every year, relevant social security payments for Kuwaiti nationals, and an engaging working environment. Leave entitlement is 30 days per year (on pro rata basis) plus 14 public holidays.
There are no other allowances payable as part of this package. No accommodation and relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position.
This position is for a permanent employment, subject to a 90 working day probationary period.
Conditioned working hours are 38 hours gross per week (this is made up of 35.5 hours net per week and a daily 30-minute lunch break). The normal working hours are 07:30 – 15:30 from Sunday to Wednesday and 07:30 – 13:30 on Thursday. Due to the nature of the work, the jobholder should be flexible in their approach to hours worked as these will be dictated by operational needs and may involve working out-of-hours (evening / weekend) to support evening events and urgent out-of-hours communications.
The Embassy has an active Learning and Development Committee, and the whole of Post is committed to providing the time and resources for staff to develop personally and professionally. The 70/20/10 learning and development model is applied in a flexible manner, with extensive informal and formal opportunities readily available. There will likely be an expectation of undertaking training specific to crisis response/ management in 2026.

Process:
The recruitment process, including security clearance, is expected to take around two-three months. The security clearance process includes checks available in country and with UK, dependant on the security level required for the role and the candidates’ profile and UK footprint.
