The British Embassy in Tripoli has a vacancy for a Procurement and Protocol Support Officer, in the Corporate Services Department, job grade Administrative Officer (AO), on a fixed term contract basis for one (1) year. The contract may be extended, subject to satisfactory performance and on on-going business requirement.
Main purpose of the Role:
This is an exciting opportunity for a driven and skilled person to join the Corporate Services Team to provide support on Protocol and Procurement portfolios.
The jobholder will be working to support UK diplomats, armed forces and law enforcement personnel and country based staff operating out of the Embassy in Tripoli.
This new position will be crucial to the increased engagement of the British Government outside of Tripoli and in providing critical support to the Head of Corporate Services and the wider Corporate Services Team. The position is key to ensuring a consistent delivery of quality and efficient corporate services to the for His Majesty’s Government (HMG).
The ideal candidate will bring experience of working in Libya and with Libyan officials, be a strong communicator with good attention to detail and the ability to deliver at pace.
The successful applicant will need to be able to learn, understand, adapt, and implement FCDO and HMG procurement and payment policies and also prepared to engage with local officials to secure visas and travel permissions to enable the Embassy to deliver across a range of HMG priorities.
Roles and responsibilities:
- Protocol duties and support: Provide support to the protocol team including the preparation of documents for both staff and visitor visas and those documents required for the import and export of goods and diplomatic bags including to obtain customs clearances for official consignments and personal effects of UKB staff. The jobholder will also provide general management support including provision of assistance as required for staff and visitors on arrival and departure by air into Libya.
- Procurement and support to Head of Corporate Services: Lead on procurement, payments and contract management. In coordination with the Head of Corporate Services ensure procurement and contract management complies with FCDO and UK Government rules, including Value for Money (VfM), transparency, competition, security and H&S standards. Maintain robust monitoring, record keeping and reporting for all contractor activity.
- The jobholder will also lead on security related procurement and maintenance requirements ensuring coordination between embassy stakeholders and local contractors to ensure timely delivery of repairs and, as required, new installations.
- Support to operations in Benghazi including protocol support and travel administration for all visits to the east: The jobholder will play a key role in supporting visits and engagements by Embassy staff to Benghazi and eastern Libya. This will include being the administrative and logistical lead for visits. Duties will include production of NVs and making travel and accommodation bookings.
The above list is not exhaustive, and the jobholder will be required to be flexible and take on other ad hoc tasks as required.

Working hours and remuneration:
The British Embassy in Tripoli offers an attractive working environment and remuneration package for this role, including a non-negotiable salary of USD 1,803 per month inclusive of all allowances. INAS deductions will be applied.
This position is for a full-time employment, on a fixed term contract basis for one (1) year. The contract may be extended, subject to satisfactory performance and on on-going business requirement.
The successful candidate will be subject to a one thirty (30) working days probationary period. The appointment will also be subject to satisfactory local and UK security clearances.
This role may involve some travel outside of Tripoli for business purposes.
Conditioned working hours are 40 hours gross per week. Standard working hours are from 08:00-16:00 from Sunday to Thursday. The role is a full-time position based in Tripoli. The jobholder will be expected to be available to work from the British Embassy to Tripoli’s office, and travel using personal transport to meetings in locations in the city.
Flexible working is also permitted, allowing the jobholder to work-from-home occasionally in agreement with their line manager.

The recruitment process, including security clearance, is expected to take around two-three months. The security clearance process includes checks available in country and with UK, dependant on the security level required for the role and the candidates’ profile and UK footprint.
