Who are we?
The British Embassy in Berlin is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas. Our Corporate Services team is at the heart of Embassy operations – delivering high‑quality HR, finance, and support services that enable colleagues to perform at their best. As our new People Community Officer, you’ll help us deliver an outstanding employee experience across the Germany Network.
We aim to be a diverse and inclusive employer, welcoming to people of all backgrounds. The senior leadership is committed to ensuring that we are a supportive and fair place to work. The Germany Network values are kindness, inclusivity, honesty, professionalism and responsibility. These values guide how we work on a daily basis, and all staff must adhere to them.
Main purpose of job:
As People & Community Officer, you will be at the centre of the employee lifecycle – ensuring HR processes are delivered efficiently, accurately, and with a strong focus on service quality. This is a hands‑on role where organisation, discretion, and strong communication are essential. If you’re organised, people‑focused, and take pride in delivering a high‑quality service, this is an excellent opportunity to grow your HR career in a unique and rewarding setting.
What you will do?
In this varied and impactful role, you will:
- Deliver high‑quality HR administration – Manage contracts, documentation, and HR processes with accuracy and confidentiality, ensuring compliance with policies and local labour requirements.
- Support onboarding and offboarding processes – Coordinate smooth employee transitions, maintaining clear processes and up‑to‑date records.
- Support accreditation for UK‑based staff – Work with external stakeholders to ensure timely and accurate processing of diplomatic accreditation.
- Be a key point of contact for new arrivals – Provide clear guidance and resources to help colleagues settle into life and work in Germany.
- Maintain critical HR systems and data – Keep trackers, records, and shared systems accurate, compliant, and audit‑ready.
- Contribute to improving the employee experience – Support wider Corporate Services initiatives that enhance how the Embassy operates and supports its people.
- Any other duties that may reasonably be required in support of the wider work of the Embassy, including crisis work.
What you will love about this role?
- Real impact on people’s experience – You’ll directly shape how colleagues join, move within, and leave the organisation.
- International, dynamic environment – Work at the heart of a global organisation with diverse stakeholders.
- Variety and ownership – No two days are the same, with a broad scope across HR and community support.
- Supportive and collaborative team – Join a culture that values teamwork, trust, and continuous learning.
- Development opportunities – Access ongoing learning, internal initiatives, and opportunities to contribute beyond your core role.
Don’t miss out on this fantastic opportunity!
