Who are we?
The British Embassy in Uzbekistan is part of the world-wide UK diplomatic network working on behalf of British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking to recruit a Political and Project Officer for the Political and Public Diplomacy Section (PPDS).
Main purpose of the job:
Main responsibilities will include reporting and analysis on the main political, economic and security developments in Uzbekistan, managing UK Government-sponsored projects; and line management of the team’s Chevening Scholarships Officer and interns.
The incumbent will play a key role in our political engagement with the Government of Uzbekistan and international organisations in support of Embassy strategic objectives. The Political and Project Officer will also have the opportunity to contribute to other activities in support of bilateral relations between the UK and Uzbekistan, and the corporate life of the Embassy.
Roles and responsibilities:
Reporting and analysis:
Support monitoring, analysis and reporting on key political, economic and security developments in Uzbekistan;
Project work:
Work closely with London-based programmes teams and project implementers to manage funding to ensure that our projects provide value for money and support embassy objectives;
Team management and administrative tasks:
Line manage one PPDS team member and PPDS interns, while providing leadership within the team.

Essential on arrival:
- Proficiency at C1 level in English, Uzbek and Russian (according to CEFR*);
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience in political analysis and reporting, ideally in an embassy or government body setting;
- Experience of project management;
- Good understanding of Uzbekistan and regional context;
- Good interpersonal skills to build and maintain relationships with a range of stakeholders;
- Willing to take initiative, flexible, responsible and reliable team player;
- Good IT skills (Microsoft Office applications).

This is a full-time, permanent contract for 35 working hours net per week.
The successful candidate will be subject to professional background checks and security clearance.
Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy in Uzbekistan are subject to the terms and conditions of service according to local Uzbek employment law. All applicants interested in this job opportunity should have the legal right to live and work in Uzbekistan.

Working patterns: This is a full-time position however the British Embassy Tashkent supports flexible working and would be able to consider flexi-hours (eg early start and early finish each working day).
