Who are we?
The British Embassy in Belgrade is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is looking to recruit a Post Security Manager (PSM).
Main purpose of job:
The Post Security Manager (PSM) is responsible for day-to-day supervision of security measures, procedures and overall security management of the Embassy and Residence compounds.
As a Crisis Management Champion, this role maintains the embassy’s Crisis Management Plan, promotes learning and development on crisis issues (including leading an annual exercise) and secretary to the Crisis Management Committee.

What This Role Delivers:
- Keep the embassy running safely and smoothly
You will support the Post Security Officer (PSO) / Deputy Head of Mission (DHM) and the security team to make sure daily security operations work efficiently. This includes coordinating resources, managing equipment and budgets, and responding to any security incidents in a calm, professional way. - Be the embassy’s Security connection
You will build strong relationships with colleagues across the embassy, other diplomatic missions, local police, and security organisations in Belgrade. You’ll share important updates, write clear security guidance for staff and ensure everyone arriving at the embassy receives the right security briefing. - Lead on local staff Security checks
You will manage the vetting process for locally employed staff, making sure all required checks are completed properly and recorded securely, working closely with UK-based security teams. - Support crisis planning and preparedness.
As secretary to the Crisis Management Committee, you’ll help ensure the embassy is ready for emergencies. You’ll organise quarterly meetings, keep crisis plans up to date, and help design and run an annual crisis exercise to strengthen team readiness. - Help maintain business continuity
You will support planning for situations where the embassy building might not be available, and ensure emergency contact systems are kept accurate and tested regularly. - Assess risks and support high‑profile visits
Working with the Deputy Post Security Manager, you’ll help assess security risks for events and residential properties. You’ll also provide advice for official visits (including occasional travel outside Belgrade) and act as a key point of contact for VIP and VVIP delegations. - Contribute to wider embassy resilience
You will take part in emergency planning and may be involved in responding to real‑time crises, supporting the embassy’s overall safety and preparedness.

Our Ideal Candidate shows:
- Fluent in English and Serbian written and spoken minimum level C1 level for CEFR* framework.
- Solid experience line managing, supervising a team and developing staff potential.
- Professional experience handling security‑related tasks, such as risk, safety, incident response or protective security.
- Good geographical knowledge of Belgrade and Serbia, including key areas, routes and local context.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office programmes.
- Full, clean driving licence and willing to drive as part of job duties.
- Strong organisational skills, able to prioritise, follow procedures and keep accurate records.
- Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions under pressure, especially during incidents or emergencies.

This is a permanent full-time position of 5 working days, 39 gross hours per week.
The salary is gross and subject to payment of all mandatory social security contributions (19.9%) and tax (10%), in line with local regulations. Staff also receive a meal allowance of €100 per month and transport allowance of 4,359.00 dinars per month, which are reviewed periodically.

The successful candidate will be subject to professional background and security clearance checks and must have pre-existing authorization to work in Serbia.
The successful candidate will be hired as a permanent member of staff under the terms and conditions applicable to all Country Based Staff (CBS). All taxes and social contributions will be paid in accordance with local employment legislation and are deducted at source.
If, for operational reasons, the employee is required to work beyond contracted hours, overtime may be payable in line with the applicable Terms & Conditions.
Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy in Serbia are employed in accordance with Serbian employment law and the Embassy’s Terms & Conditions of Service.
