The Corporate Services Belgium and Luxembourg (CSB) is a joint service providing operational support to the UK Diplomatic Missions in Belgium, including the UK Mission to the EU, the UK Joint Delegation to NATO, and the British Embassy in Brussels. CSB also supports the UK’s Devolved Governments in Brussels, as well as our Embassies in Luxembourg and The Hague. We deliver a broad range of operational and strategic services, including staff management, Finance, IT, Security and Transport. In addition, we manage a shared Residence used for high-level official engagements across the UK Missions.
As one of the largest operations within the UK’s Europe Diplomatic Network, CSB plays a key role in ensuring the effective functioning of multiple missions. We are now looking for a Security Officer to support the day-to-day delivery of security operations across the Brussels platform.
Main purpose of job:
As part of the CSB team, you will contribute directly to maintaining a safe and secure environment for staff, visitors, contractors and UK Government assets across the Brussels platform.
Working as part of a professional security team within a busy diplomatic environment, you will support the delivery of day-to-day security operations, including access control, monitoring, patrols and incident response, ensuring compliance with FCDO security policies and standards. The role plays an important part in enabling the effective functioning of multiple UK Missions by helping to safeguard people, information and facilities.
This is a shift-based position and responsibilities will vary according to operational requirements, including early and late duties.
Roles and responsibilities:
- Manage access control, including screening visitors and issuing passes;
- Process and maintain access permissions using security systems;
- Screen and handle incoming mail, including diplomatic deliveries;
- Monitor CCTV systems and respond to suspicious activity;
- Conduct routine patrols of buildings, perimeter, and surrounding areas;
- Maintain accurate security logs and incident records;
- Carry out opening and closing procedures to secure the building;
- Support incident response, emergency situations, and contingency operations;
- Deliver or support security briefings for staff and new joiners;
- Participate in wider Mission’s initiatives as required, including engaging in a corporate role.

Our Ideal Candidate shows:
- Proficiency in English, minimum C1 level according to the CEFR framework*, with strong verbal and written communication skills;
- Minimum one year of experience in a security-related role;
- Experience in access control, visitor management or site security;
- Experience responding to incidents, emergencies or security-related situations;
- Ability to work independently and manage priorities effectively;
- Proven ability to work as part of a team;

This is a full-time contract of 5 working days (37.5 hours net) per week. This position will be filled on a fixed-term contract for 12 months.
The monthly gross salary for this position is € 4,001.74 at Administrative Assistant (AA) level. In addition, we offer an extensive salary package, which includes a 13th month, luncheon vouchers, eco-vouchers, pension scheme, optional hospitalisation insurance (subject to monthly employee contribution), reimbursement of public transport and a lot more. We offer more days of annual leave than the Belgian requirements.
Please note that Belgian nationals will be paid their salary gross and are expected to comply with their tax obligations through completion of a tax return to the Belgian authorities. Non-Belgian nationals will receive their salary net, minus the deduction of an equivalent level of Belgian tax retained at source. Further information on this will be given to candidates during the recruitment process.
The starting date will be agreed between the parties.
Staff recruited locally by the British Diplomatic Missions in Belgium are subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to local Belgian employment law.
The successful candidates will be subject to professional background checks and security clearance.
Passport: Officers are expected to be in possession of a passport due to the possibility that they may be asked to undertake business travel.
Visa/work permit requirements: Candidates must currently hold the independent right to live and work in Belgium and be prepared to ensure that right remains throughout the scope of the contract. Please note that it is your responsibility to ensure you meet the legal requirements to live and work in this country.
Working pattern: This is a full-time, office-based role operating on a shift rota. The successful candidate will normally work 5 days per week, primarily between Monday and Friday, with shifts scheduled according to operational requirements. Working hours may vary and can include early, late and night shifts. Further details of the shift pattern will be provided to shortlisted candidates at interview stage. Due to the nature of the role and its importance to the delivery of security operations, the position is based on-site and is not suitable for hybrid working.
