The British High Commission in Nicosia is part of a worldwide network representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is seeking to recruit a Security Officer / Driver.
You will work closely with the Security Team and management to promote a strong security culture across the mission. You will act as a key point of contact for staff during emergencies and maintain a professional, flexible and customer-focused approach at all times.
Outside normal working hours, you will act as the primary liaison between the mission and local authorities during security incidents and help maintain oversight of mission assets, vehicles and residences.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Help ensure the safety and security of staff, visitors, buildings and assets of the British High Commission in North and South Nicosia.
- Monitor CCTV, alarm and access control systems, responding appropriately to incidents and security concerns.
- Control access to High Commission premises, including visitor screening, vehicle searches and the operation of security barriers.
- Staff the Operations Room, handling telephone enquiries and directing information to the appropriate teams, emergency services or authorities.
- Conduct routine patrols and escort visitors, contractors and staff in restricted areas when required.
- Maintain accurate records and reports of security incidents and activities.
- Provide support during emergencies as required.
- Undertake official driving duties to a high professional standard, ensuring assigned vehicles are clean, roadworthy and properly maintained, with appropriate pre-use safety checks completed.

Our ideal candidate has:
- Proficiency in English, both written and spoken (minimum of C1 CEFR framework level language*).
- Previous experience in a customer-facing role.
- Previous experience in a security, safety, facilities, operations or similar environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact professionally with staff, visitors and external
- stakeholders.
- Ability to remain calm and professional when responding to incidents, emergencies and enquiries.
- Ability to maintain accurate records and follow established procedures.
- Full, valid and clean driving licence.

Good to have:
- Previous experience working in a diplomatic mission, international organisation, embassy or high-security environment.
- Former Police or Military force experience.
- Experience of CCTV, access control and alarm monitoring systems.
- Ability to speak Greek and/or Turkish would be an advantage.

This is a 12 months fixed-term contract.
The confirmation of appointment is subject to professional background checks and security clearance procedures, as well as the successful completion of a 6 months probation period.
The successful candidate must be free of any convictions and undergo a UK security clearance process.

Staff recruited locally by the British High Commission in Nicosia are subject to the Terms and Conditions of Service according to local Republic of Cyprus employment law.
Visa/work permit requirements: All applicants should have the right to live and work in Cyprus and be prepared to engage bi-communally, where necessary. The British High Commission does not sponsor work/ residency permits.
