Are you curious about how companies grow, good at building trust, and excited by the idea of helping Swedish firms invest in the UK? This role puts you right at the heart of that journey.
Who We Are:
The British Embassy in Sweden is part of a worldwide network, representing British political, economic, and consular interests overseas. The Embassy works with Sweden in partnership, prioritising cooperation in defence and security and building on our shared values, to identify and explore new opportunities in trade, investment, and innovation, and to uphold European security and the rules‑based international system. The Embassy also provides focused consular services to British nationals. We care deeply about our people and seek to enshrine excellence, respect, integrity, and kindness in everything we do.
We are now looking for a Senior Investment Adviser to join our Department for Business & Trade (DBT) team in Stockholm. Within the Embassy, the DBT leads on strengthening economic ties between the UK and Sweden, by promoting trade, supporting business growth, and helping international companies invest and expand in the UK.
What will you do?
As our new Senior Investment Adviser, your main purpose will be to promote the UK as the investment destination of choice for Swedish companies, whether they are looking to set up a subsidiary, or expand existing operations.
You will:
- Identify opportunities by monitoring Swedish industry trends and spotting companies with potential to set up or expand in the UK;
- Build and manage senior‑level relationships with business leaders, investors, and key industry stakeholders;
-
Promote the UK as the investment destination of choice, highlighting strengths across our Nations and regions and within key sectors such as:
- Advanced Manufacturing (including semiconductors & space)
- Clean Energy Industries
- Foundation Industries (construction, minerals, metals & steel, ports/logistics)
- Capital Investment
- Progress investment opportunities through the inward investment cycle, providing insight, guidance, and connections that support companies’ expansion decisions;
- Develop and maintain a 3‑year active investment pipeline, ensuring accurate, timely pipeline management and forward planning;
-
Build strong professional networks and work closely with UK regional leads, Embassy colleagues, and other UK/Swedish stakeholders;
-
Project‑manage and deliver key investment‑focused activities, including senior visits and engagements, events, and cross‑government initiatives;
-
Contribute to wider UK Government priorities on growth, economic security, and innovation;
-
Travel for business across Sweden, the Nordic‑Baltic region, Europe, and the UK as and when required.
What you will love about the role?
This is a role for someone who is sociable, flexible, open‑minded, and has an eye for opportunity and detail. This is a varied, outward‑facing role where no two days are the same. You may be pitching the UK to a boardroom in the morning, analysing market data after lunch, and supporting a ministerial visit by late afternoon.
You will also enjoy:
- Helping create high-value investment and long-term partnerships between the UK and Sweden;
- Collaborating daily with colleagues across the UK, Europe, and global networks;
- Working with senior business leaders, investors, government partners, and innovators across multiple sectors;
- Access to DBT’s investment training programme, UK‑wide sector expertise, and Embassy learning & development support;
- Manage your own accounts, shaping your pipeline, and lead activity across strategic sectors such as clean energy, advanced manufacturing, semiconductors, space, and capital investment.
- Joining a team that values collaboration, kindness, professionalism, and personal growth.
If you enjoy connecting with people, spotting opportunities, and turning ideas into real‑world outcomes, this is a role where you can truly thrive.
