DBT is the UK’s department for economic growth. We support businesses to invest, grow and export, creating jobs and opportunities across the country. DBT plays a critical role in delivering the UK Government’s economic objectives by driving high‑value foreign direct investment (FDI), helping UK companies do business overseas, and strengthening strategic commercial relationships. We are seeking a Senior Market Adviser responsible for investment promotion in Norway. The role focuses on generating, nurturing, and landing high‑value investment projects that align with the UK’s Industrial Strategy and contribute directly to the UK’s economic growth targets. This is an opportunity to play a central role in securing major investments that support UK growth.
Roles and Responsibilities:
What are you expected to achieve?:
1. Strategic Investment Delivery:
- Drive and secure strategic FDI wins in the UK in line with the UK’s Industrial Strategy priorities.
- Shape and execute business development plans for investment promotion across selected sectors and subsectors.
- Proactively identify new investors while deepening engagement with existing investors to develop a high-value pipeline of strategic investment projects.
- Respond to high-potential investment leads, assessing suitability for UK opportunities.
2. Key Account Management & Project Delivery:
- Strengthen strategic relationships with key investors, influencers, and stakeholders.
- Maintain knowledge of market developments, gather business intelligence, and engage with investors on investment opportunities and challenges.
- Work closely with the HM Ambassador (HMA), HM Trade Commissioner (HMTC) Europe, relevant government departments and UK partners to position the UK as a compelling investment destination.
- Support wider network, embassy and team objectives, including on cross-cutting events, visits and meetings; contributing to briefings and speeches for Ministers and senior officials.
3. Communications & Stakeholder Engagement:
- Promote the UK’s investment offer across Norway, creating a strong and positive perception among key commercial and institutional stakeholders.
- Advising stakeholders on opportunities and challenges
- Collaborate with colleagues across the local network share insights and the wider DBT Europe and global network to deliver impactful promotional activities and campaigns.
4. Capability development & Leadership:
- Develop and implement a yearly Learning & Development plan to build capabilities.
- Prioritise high-value work, maintain clarity of focus, and contribute to a high-performance culture.
- Support and mentor colleagues where appropriate, contributing to an inclusive, collaborative, and forward-leaning team environment.

Essential on arrival:
- fluency in English and Norwegian (minimum of C1 level according to CEFR*);
- Minimum 3 years’ experience working in a similar role (i.e. business development, investment promotion, trade, consultancy, corporate strategy or a related field) either in the private or public sector;
- Stakeholder management and experience: demonstrated ability to develop senior-level relationships with businesses, investors and key decision-makers
- Understanding of Norwegian business landscape and economy;
- Excellent communications, interpersonal and networking skills;
- Ability to collaborate across teams and departments;
- Highly organised, proactive and able to prioritise effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Nice to have:
- Master’s degree preferred (i.e. Business & Economics, International Relations, Political Science or similar);
- Ability to analyse market trends, identify opportunities, and build opportunity pipelines;
- International working experience.

This is a full-time, permanent contract position of 5 working days (currently 35 hours net) per week. The annual basic salary is NOK 721,680 (gross).
